Oh, and I prefer LED monitors to LCD. Better contrast ratios, better blackness, lower energy consumption. They are more expensive, but just wanted to put my two cents in.

She hit the nail on the head. +1 from Vaddilac

Jarka Wrote:I was saying that, of any premade brand, Asus tends to be the best value, not that it costs less than building it yourself. Seeing as HP and Dell have better name recognition for premades, it's easy to get crowded out by their lower end products. Having specific brands to search for just means easier research. Also, some people might see something close in specs and think it's worth the extra cash to not have to sweat piecing it together. I believe in making as informed a decision as possible before making a significant purchase; it lessens buyer's remorse substantially.

That being said, anybody looking to buy a gaming laptop should look at Asus's offerings.

I actually completely missed that paragraph of yours about Asus premades and skipped right to the one where you suggested to just build it.

My bad!

To advocate for Jarka's point-- Asus Republic of Gamers is a bulletproof quality brand.

I have yet to see a reliable way to build laptops from scratch. It isn't like building a tower where you can buy the husk and fill it with parts. A laptop is a bit more complex in how the motherboard and the internals are sorted among each other. That and each laptop is specifically tailored with a certain heat dispersion method. Some have fans that suck air from the bottom, others have high powered fans that move air to the side out of a vent.

It would be a lot more complex and I don't recommend it. Buying a laptop is very easy nowadays and most of the decent ones can be customized performance wise.

Yeah, I'm just trying to think if there's a company that you can send the parts to and they'll. Build it for ya. I know there a few that will help you put together the right bits, sort out all compatability BS and install the driver for PC construction. I can only imagine there's a company out there that knows what parts can go in what rigs and are willing to build a laptop for you. I think the only issue with that is that there are such restrictions on arts fit in certain configurations that you could only customize one or two things in a rig.

I found this guide if you're dead set on building your own.

Gaming laptops are crazy expensive for substandard performance. Get a tower and do it right.

Portable gaming is overrrrrrrrrated.

New Gaming Rig - Mr. Zhu - 02-08-2012

I just don't gots room for a legit desktop yo. Just need a laptop that can at the very least run games without blowin' up every three seconds.

New Gaming Rig - Waffuru - 02-08-2012

Well, you pay for portability.

Very true. If I had paid the amount that I paid for my laptop on a tower, I'd have a BEASTLY rig. It's pretty decent, and handles most stuff on high, but 2k would have gotten me a monstrous tower.
