No problems here. Nameks had a deadlock, so now I was planning on dropping my troop numbers so I could terrorize the lowbies out of somewhat boredom, but I'd be fine with a reset.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Kami - 05-11-2009

Is anybody still playing? I don't see any point.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Kaden - 05-11-2009

Rod Hardwood Wrote:Can I take the numbers posted in the sticky at face-value?

Yes. The only change to the numbers was the fix that Waff did so the game was working as Ashe intended.

The other mention of numbers being changed was not correct.

Can spies loot gold? No.

Yes, you should DEFINITELY end this game before the 1st.

Ashe Wrote:Speaking of, I'm considering ending this round on the 15th at midnight.

Any objections?
OBJECTION.

Josh and I are still in the middle of developing the next round. The changes are drastic (for instance, percentage troop gains are an unfixable imbalance, so we're going with static gains) but since the official reset date was still weeks away there was time to work on it. Plus, we were going to post the game changes on the open forum a week in advance so players would have time to review it and make their choices before zero hour.

Besides that, there are some problems with the game itself that we suspect will take more effort to fix. For instance, at the very start of this round Josh stumbled into a glitch that allows excessive gains (he did it for troops, but i assume it can be done for cash as well). We've been avoiding it ever since, because this round was supposed to be for collecting hard data to give directions to our changes for the next round, although we suspect other players may be abusing it as part of their normal play. I need to talk to someone who can make changes to the game interface (waff?) about some ideas to curb the abuse, though. It should be rather simple, at least in theory.

In short: moar time.

No one said you guys would be going next.

o.0

Someone else can go while you guys figure out what you want to do. I wouldn't be surprised if it took that long anyway.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Jack - 05-11-2009

Why we ending the round?

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Kaden - 05-11-2009

Because a month is too long for a single round.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Kazuya - 05-11-2009

Yeah, and now its just getting embarassing. Josh owns over 97% of the total troops by himself f the entire game. there is practically no way we can all catch up in time. he's already won. Just god make it stop.

Kaden Wrote:Because a month is too long for a single round.

Essentially, this.

I have numerous other opinions about the game as a whole, but I don't feel like posting that at the moment. But when I chose the length of time (originally), I wasn't under the acknowledgment of (the entirely stupid) exponential growth that this game is currently designed for.

Additionally, to the numerous feature requests wondering why I didn't do things like let spies get gold, etc... I've complained numerous times about this. I tweaked whatever options were available in the console. Anything else (like feature implementation) would have to involve Waff possibly recoding portions of it.

we are going next that was teh deal

Just stop the game if you don't want to reset. I'm kinda sick of it at this point.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Kaden - 05-11-2009

Josh Wrote:we are going next that was teh deal

Doesn't matter to me as long as everyone else isn't sitting around while numbers are figured out.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Jack - 05-11-2009

Yeah, I can see why people would be tired of it. Hopefully next round, we actually do shit, instead of buying armor until the cows come home.

I mean, I'm enjoying this round still, there is no way to "win". But I'm not contesting that it should end, if you guys feel it should end then it should end. But people can't join and fag it all up BSing around, doing nothing, acting like this is a solo game, then getting bored and effing the rest of us over because they got bored.

Josh and Rod should establish some unofficial guidelines or objectives so people at least have something they're aiming at, instead of us just watching as people swell to faggishly unnecessary numbers, build a massive defense for no reason at all, or just generally be lame (MY DICK IS BIGGER THAN YOURS OMG NO ITS NOT).

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Rafael - 05-11-2009

Actually, this is starting to get kinda fun imo. Reminds me of the Saiyan Saga, Rod and Meer are like Goku and Vegeta and I'm Nappa, taking on all the littler guys.

If you need more time I'll run one inbetween this one and Josh/yours. Especially if you need changes made that aren't covered by the game setup. I don't even know if what you're asking will be possible.

What are you responding to?

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Alura - 05-11-2009

Everything, really. Nothing.

I'm stating my opinion. Just stop the game, whether someone is going to take over or not. It's over, someone has won.

Generic Conquest Discussion thread. - Belle Hibiki - 05-11-2009

Maybe you should, I don't know, make troop gain a flat number (10) instead of something that scales infinitely with itself.

Just my opinion.

That's part of why I tightened the "attackable" ratio to what I did. I was trying to encourage developing your armies and fighting each other while growing at a slower pace, gearing up and actually going through to upgrade your gear to the more expensive gear.

What happened in reality (primarily due to exponential growth) is that people just spent the entire game clicking their recruit button for every turn until they had a billion soldiers, then clicked income a couple times to build up some gear or training. The complete opposite of what I intended.

I think a few changes I would make if I were able (remember, I had to rush out with things since people insisted on an immediate reset that actually happened a night before the real one due to impatience), which entirely takes into account the fact that the console doesn't allow the types of changes I was hoping for, would be to make soldier growth static instead of exponential. Something to the effect of 10 soldiers per Recruit. Any percentage creates massive scaling issues.

I would also extend the saved number of turns to about 8 hours, to allow people to sleep or go to work without killing their chance at a fight. The reason is to reduce the absolute gap that occurs between those that can efficiently spend every turn through whatever methods they have available, and those that aren't as hardcore about it and play when able. While I have nothing against hardcore play, and in fact enjoy it greatly (though I didn't participate in it with this game), I do have something against the majority of the players not actually enjoying the game. If only three people are enjoying it, then its an abysmal failure in my eyes. I'd like to see more people actively fighting back and forth.

I also highly do not like posting intel publicly. To me, that violates the entire spirit of the game; if this is what is happening, then we may as well remove spies entirely and just make all information visible. Another point is that while some people would like things to be adjusted for team structuring, other than a few specific people, I don't forsee hardcore team based strats happening. For the most part, my forums were devoid of anyone posting other than myself and maybe one or two other people.

That said, I'm resetting on the 15th. This gives those with things to do some time to do them (although I highly doubt anyone has anything left that they wish to do) while also letting people know in advance when they can be prepared.

Also, Waff, would it be possible to put into place a way for someone to "destroy" their village so that they are removed from the game until the next time its reset? Or at least an option that allows them to turn off PM notification of being attacked so that they can ignore it if they decide that they wish to no longer participate? If it can't be made optional, I'm sure more people would prefer to see that PM turned off completely than to be on.
