Well, everyone gets destroyed by Anderson. He's a monster, his sense of timing is unparalleled. There's a reason he's undefeated in the UFC.

I just checked that fight out on Youtube. That was brutal. Silva was pretty much mocking him, the gulf in class was pretty shocking.

dana white just said that the next TUF season is getting coached by chuck liddell and tito ortiz ;O

they've already fought twice, with chuck winning both. the UFC uses the best-of-three rule, and at the time tito was still at the top of the 205 division so he then became a sort of gatekeeper while chuck had the belt. but that was years ago, tito has since been dropped from the UFC after losing to lyoto machida, and liddell didn't get his contract renewed after losing to rashad evans. tito only recently came back at a reduced salary after no other promotion picked him up, and liddell came back specifically for this TUF season to be coach again (he was the original challenger coach on the first season).

this is probably the most interesting coaching match up since penn vs pulver. the coaches themselves are totally lopsided in their fighting histories, but looks good on paper: tito said he would be stronger after his last back surgery, saying he was held back during training and fighting due to recurrent back injury. chuck himself did a lot to push the 205 division to the level it's at now, back when it was the most competitive in the UFC, but his weaknesses have been exposed so maybe tito can put together a decent game plan this time.

GONNA B GR8

also, watching the current TUF season finale, and ROY NELSON JUST PUNCHED THE MOTHERFUCKING BRAINS OUT OF HIS OPPONENT IN ONE SHOT. behind the ear, the dude's lights went out immediately. fatty ain't so bad now, huh?

The Fighting Thread - Celena - 12-06-2009

Hey saz, did you watch the Amir Khan fight? If you blinked, you'd have probably missed it.

By the way it's finally going to happen, the biggest fight of all time, Pacquao vs Mayweather in march next year.

The Fighting Thread - Saz - 12-06-2009

No, it was on Sky Box-office wasn't it? Fuck paying £15 for a fight which lasts a little over a minute.

Rod Hardwood Wrote:also, watching the current TUF season finale, and ROY NELSON JUST PUNCHED THE MOTHERFUCKING BRAINS OUT OF HIS OPPONENT IN ONE SHOT. behind the ear, the dude's lights went out immediately. fatty ain't so bad now, huh?

Yeah, thanks for that Rod. =/

I watched the two episodes before the final last night (final is on thursday, I WONDER WHO'S GONNA WIN).

Okay recap: McSweeny is a bully, his little fight with Zac was intense, I would have loved it if Zac would have knocked him out. I really wanted to like McSweeny since he was the only British guy in the competition, but he's an asshole, what can I say. You just knew as soon as he started show-boating against Roy Nelson that he was gonna lose.

And omg, Kimbo pussied out of the fight. That was a shocker. He's spent the last 10 episodes saying how much he loves fighting and how he wanted a second shot, Dana pretty much gives it to him on a plate and suddenly he can't take the thought of having another lose on his record. So what if your knee is sore, you're not exactly known for your speed and agility anyways. And why did he refuse the gel injection into his knee, is he afraid of needles or something?

His reputation has taken such a battering, I bet he regrets agreeing to come on the show. xD

the UFC is incredibly rough to its members. i like to refer to them as "the meat grinder" of mma promotions. doesn't matter if you're a four time champion: they'll keep throwing the toughest opponents at you as fast as they can until you beat them or lose.

when they set kimbo up against huston alexander i had no idea what was going to happen. houston is known for walking in, and then just punching full power until someone goes down like what you'd see in a barroom brawl, but that's a dumb way to fight. he's been learning how to fight properly recently.

Houston vs. Keith Jardine (starts at 2:10)
Houston vs. James "The Sandman" Irvin (starts at around 4:00 in)
Houston vs Sherman Pendergarst

those are just three examples of the kinds of fights alexander has had, in chronological order to show his progression as a fighter. joe rogan kept sputtering about how houston's performance was unexpected, but that's probably because he doesn't watch him fight outside of the UFC. kimbo went through the exact same thing, he had to learn from experience that acting like a maniac is a double edged sword. kimbo was a terrible fighter during the show, but the show was taped months ago and since then he's been in a professional training camp with other pro fighters, and his improvements really showed. he's still nowhere near top level, but at least now he's a valid mid-level fighter.

That's why I never pay for box office. I can't afford the risk of a quick fight.

Soo..
Who is interested in seeing BJ being de-belted this Saturday?
Also, to that guy a year ago that was arguing with me about how Rashad is not a good fighter.. IN YO FACE MUH'FUCKA! Even though he got demolished by Lyoto >_>..

The Fighting Thread - Pinky - 12-11-2009

Forrest is not that great a fighter, and even he knows this. Forrest shouldn't even have won that decision vs. Quinton to get the title in the first place. Both Rashad and Forrest's titles were meaningless, evidenced by how badly they lost on their first title defense.

The Fighting Thread - Pinky - 12-13-2009

UFC 107 spoilerz.

Guess nobody can deal with BJ in the lightweight division. Figured. Excluding Penn, the lightweight division looks really competitive, but it's just that BJ is so much better than everyone else it's retarded. He has to fight somebody with a thirty pound weight advantage to get a challenge.

Just watched the fights, he truly looks untouchable in 155. I'm not a fan of his work, but he does it time and time again.

What you've stated is true for Welterweight too, excluding GSP, there are TONS of great great great welterweights fighting in the UFC. Middleweight, Silva is impossible to beat, but I feel Strikeforce's edge on UFC is the fact that they have way better Middleweight competitors, Mousasi, Mayhem and Shields are all topnotch middleweight contenders but all with Strikeforce.

I think for Silva right now, a legit threat to his title in UFC is probably Belfort or Nate the Great. Belfort put on an amazing performance against Rich Frank and Nate just recently K'd the fuck O of Maia, after he blows past Sonnen he could very well be looking at another title shot.... After Silva beats Belfort that is >.>.

On a side note, I was totally WOW'd by Frank Mir's performance in UFC 107. Very very very impressive. Guillotine choke in the half guard, thats hard to pull off for anyone.

The Fighting Thread - Pinky - 12-13-2009

I think Mir's improvement has a lot to do with Lesner's introduction. HW has always been the least competitive division, and so they've always been the worst division. It was only two years ago, the top5 UFC HWs were all one-dimensional fighters. Tim "The Jab" Silvia was the title holder, for fuck's sake.

Brock isn't necessarily the most skilled guy on his feet, but he's just so fast and strong that everything he does is devastating. So, to compete with that the other top HWs have to pick up the pace, and Mir is really standing out in this regard. Even with Nog there it's still a shit division, but in a few years that'll change.

Fight metric does stats on Penn vs. Sanchez. The difference is absurd.

lol wtf is this

The Fighting Thread - Pinky - 12-31-2009

It was the 2008 April event, GSP vs Matt Serra 2, the first UFC event to be hosted in Canada. That particular match, Nate Quarry is making fun of his opponent Kalib Starnes because Kalib refused to engage for practically the entire fight. Quarry also did a "running man" gag near the end.
[Image: KalibRunningManStarnes.gif&usg=AFQjCNFXu...LUQnIiLckA]

Even though the crowd was supportive of the Canadian fighters by default, and Kalib was the Canadian, they booed him out of the ring and cheered Quarry because he really tried to make the fight worth the ticket price, but it takes two to rumble.

edit: ufc108 is going to be on this saturday night, with main event being two light heavyweights (rashad evans and thiago silva), both being advertised as "KO artists" (lies) with only one recent loss on their record, now vying for a position at the bottom of the top 5 in their division.

The Fighting Thread - Mr. Zhu - 12-31-2009

Hmm, I'm more interested in the Dustin Hazelett fight and the Joe Lauzon fight. Both amazing Jiu-Jitsu practitioners who aren't afraid to exchange. ALSO, Junior Dos Santos (an actual KO artist) is fighting, which is awesome... OH AND Martin Kampmann. The undercards are actually more attractive than the main event. But yea, Rashad and Thiago is gonna be an interesting fight. If Rashad is driven like Mir, it'll be beast.

The Fighting Thread - Celena - 01-01-2010

Brock Lesnar or Bobby Lashley? Bobby reckons he can beat Brock and I believe he can. Brock's a ground and pounder, and he's been bigger and stronger than any opponent he's stepped into the octagon with, but Bobby's pretty much the same size as him and is a better fighter IMO.

Btw, anyone else know about a website called fighting authority?

The original main event was supposed to be Rashad vs Quinton Jackson, two former title holders who had been recently put down and are now trying to get back on top. Quinton has unofficially "retired" and his filming of the A-Team movie interrupted the scheduled match (he said he'll finish his contract with the UFC and move onto a career in films). Thiago Silva is a decent stand-in, but if I had tickets I'd be pissed.
