Is an amazing story about a Native American. You feel like you like the guy's entire life when you read the book.

Meh, either way, you should read "The Sea-Wolf" if you haven't already. I can't remember Jack London's nationality, but the book is amazing. Rather philosophical piece of literature.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is also by a British writer.
Pan, hope there was a reason you chose a sucky book to read =(. I'd recommend The Great Gatsby, but you've seemed to have already read it. The Scarlet Letter and The Turn of the Screw are also good books.
And I wouldn't recommend Walden unless you're someone with an eager young mind open to Transcendentialism.
