Fuck you Sony!

The move is shaders is something that all next-gen consoles will be doing. It's the next step in graphics, it's not something that only the PS3 will be doing. Texturized models are no longer cutting it.

Did you even read the Cell processor article? The Playstation 3 is going to require 7 of 8 SPE cores, these are all housed within the processor. Making new chips is incredibly difficult and even more expensive. Sony is saying they can use the Cell Processors that have 1 defective SPE, because it isn't active in the console. This probably doubles the number of chips they can use. What the guy was saying is that only 10-20% of the chips produced will have all 8 SPE in perfect condition.

The Playstaion 3's price is justified without a blu-ray drive. Economies of scale.

Yeah, but at least he doesn't freak out when people take shots at his preferred console.

MGS4 will rock. I'll be broke as fuck until all of them come out though, so I'll have time to see which will best suit me.

I'm actually a closet Sega fanboy. I wanted a Sega Saturn and my dad bought the Sony Playstation. Sad

I don't think I really count as a fanboy because I don't make shit up about everyone else's favorite console.

You got me on that technicality, but the point I was trying to make is that the technology they're marketing is simply too much too soon. If they had waited a year or two and this technology was more affordable, there really wouldn't be a problem: it wouldn't be such a financial burdern to Sony or the customer. But they're trying to push new technology, which is a very expensive thing to do, and they chose an expensive format to do it in, and it's going up against very tough competition. And even with a 600 dollar price tag they're still going to lose money on every unit they sell. Too much. Too soon.

I know that they're trying to market the PS3 as more than a game console, but honestly, everything else it does is done better by other hardware that everyone already has, sans blu-ray. And are you honestly saying that you would still pay 600 dollars for a PS3 if it didn't support blu-ray? If you're being serious, you are the only person outside of a Sony executive meeting who thinks that way. :/

I could honestly say I would... especially seeing how you can get HD quality video on a regular DVD-9 disc. There was an article somewhere about a PS3 showing where they were demonstrating HD Blu-Ray and it turned out the disc was a regular DVD with magic marker on it. Very sad, but still.

EDIT: well not 600... the $500 PS3 is just fine.

Wait, arent the games themselves going to be Blu-Ray? Is that even feasible that there would be a PS3 without Blu-Ray? @_@

I totally agree that the technology is being deployed way too early. It's only been in development for 5ish years and has not been proven to the market.

Luckily, with all of that new technology in the box there is huge room for price drops. Or they could keep it at $600 and try to make up some of their loss on the sales.

Really, it's a damn shame they can't figure out how to put out some decent PC titles.

@Bido, Microsoft ran Xbox360 demos using two Apple PowerMac G5s. It's not uncommon to try more than a little switch-a-roo.

I'll give you benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't including Spore.

And btw, just so everyone knows, Dreamcast ftw.

I'd love it so much more if it didn't beep constantly. >.<

Now, it may seem like I'm just looking for a reason to bitch, but you'd be a little pissed too if your friends idiot little brother kept doing whatever he did to make the machine beep constantly.

<.< It's still awesome though. I played some Football game on it and loved it.

That actually isn't the console. Its the VMU. Someone decided it should have a speaker. A standard MU doesn't do that, though.

Thank god.

That was a constant annoyance.

When I know I'm booting up Power Stone or Soul Caliber its like a tiny little angel is hiding in my controller, trumpting the coming of the savior of my boredom.
