Upcoming mount changes
#1
Well it's pretty interesting, I'm not sure if I should be angry or happy. I had to wait til 40 and 60 to get my mounts, and pay and arm and a leg just to get them.

The new changes...

60% mount at level 20, no fucking way. It only costs 4g, too.

100% mount at level 40, no more waiting til 60 to go zoomzoom.

150% mount at 60, yeah, now you can fly around instead of on a land mount in outlands at 60.

280% at 70, but the real kicker is the new "faction discount" they've added. Makes me want to throw a hissy fit for having spent the full 5,000g for mine.

Quote:Update 6/11: For a list of changes to class abilities that result in movement speed increases, as well as a list of the factions offering flight skill discounts, see below.

In the next major content patch, we intend to adjust mount requirements to further improve the leveling experience in World of Warcraft. In addition, cast times for summoning all mounts will be reduced to 1.5 seconds, down from 3 seconds. The following is a breakdown of the upcoming cost and level requirement changes we are making for each riding skill.
  • Apprentice Riding (Skill 75)
    • 60% land mount speed
    • Requires level 20
    • Cost: 4 gold
    • Mount cost: 1 gold
    • Mail will be sent to players at level 20 guiding them to the riding trainer

  • Journeyman Riding (Skill 150)
    • 100% land mount speed
    • Requires level 40
    • Cost: 50 gold
    • Mount cost: 10 gold
    • Mail will be sent to players at level 40 guiding them back to the riding trainer

  • Expert Riding (Skill 225)
    • 150% flying mount speed; 60% land mount speed
    • Requires level 60
    • Cost: 600 gold (faction discounts now apply: Honor Hold [Alliance]; Thrallmar [Horde])
    • Mount Cost: 50 gold
    • Can now be learned in Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde)

  • Artisan Riding (Skill 300)
    • 280% flying mount speed; 100% land mount speed
    • Requires level 70
    • Cost: 5,000 gold (faction discounts now apply: Honor Hold or Valiance Expedition [Alliance]; Thrallmar or Warsong Offensive [Horde])
    • Mount Cost: 100 gold

  • Movement Speed Training By Class
    • Druid
      • Travel Form: Requires level 16
      • Flight Form: Requires level 60 (150% flight speed)
      • Swift Flight Form: Requires level 70

    • Hunter
      • Aspect of the Cheetah: Requires level 16

    • Shaman
      • Ghost Wolf: Requires level 16

    • Paladin
      • Warhorse: Requires level 20
      • Charger: Requires level 40

    • Warlock
      • Felsteed: Requires level 20
      • Dreadsteed: Requires level 40
Oh and Thunderbluff is getting a zeplin to org, and org/stormwind are getting portals to the stair of destiny, so no more running through the swamp to get to outlands.

*jaw drops*

...I wish I had more game time. The flying mount might have actually made me play.

Fighting to the bitter end is an advantage when your opponent does not wish to perish.

Why would one be upset by it? Things change over time, and being upset over this is like being angry that your grandparent's only paid 50c a gallon or something for gas (slightly the reverse though, but my main point stands).

Because it took me so long to get the 5000g to buy flying, which I got a month ago, and now faction discounts apply.

Regardless, it's good for my alts.

You also had the opportunity to experience content and pieces of the game that either will no longer exist (current druid forms for example, and ability to get mounts like Amani Warbear) that they don't get. To me, it trades off, except we can still benefit whereas they can't, unless you have a high level of every class already.

Was to be expected if you looked at the former history of WoW. It just gets easier over time.

History of mounts:
Class mounts: Long quest chains in order to get a mount unique to your class.

<some time later>

Class mounts: You talk to your trainer - finito!

Ordinary mounts: The mount cost the most of the total money needed for mounts, however somewhat soon after this system is changed so the training costs the most. I know like a dozen of people who got the mount so cheap because they just bought the mount first.

Then we got the nerfing of price. Then we got the level requirement nerf for the mounts. Now this.

Really, WoW just gets easier and easier. I don't get why Blizzard wants it that way, but they'll continue that way.

I'm happy. It'll give me enough time to get my lock and mage up to 20 and have them get mounts, too. I got the hunter and rogue there now. Yay change!

Being able to use a flying mount at 60 is the change that's going to have the most impact, I think, with 100% mounts at 40 close behind. The biggest problem with Outland is that it's, well, big, and the quest hubs - though structured better than vanilla - can still send you traipsing from one end of the zone to the next. Being able to chain quests even faster than on a 100% mount, and throwing in ultra safety while doing it, is just going to be bananas for helping people burn through Outland.
