Guns arn't the only things that end lives, dude. I own three guns, one for myself and two for my store in case of robberies. I use them for protection.

Guns are not useless. They may be dangerous, but they are NOT useless

I only remember the latter of those quotes. Jim carrey played that role excellent, but the movie overall wasn't very good. Oh, and all of Larry the Cableguy's quotes were from TV, I believe.

Unless I misunderstood what you said...former is first, latter is second. Jim Carrey's quote is first, so it would be the former. Troy's is second, hence the latter.

Anyways...

The way I see it, every animal has some means of defense. We just keep advancing ours. War isn't an invention of mankind, it's nature. The parameters change and evolve, as all things eventually do, but not the thing itself. Some can suppress it, others can't, because the degree of this nature varies from person to person. We have a few prime examples of this right here at our very own Chubbs.

I don't see anything wrong with taking pride in something. Those are some pretty sweet looking guns, Goten.

The one from Troy is the one I remember, I did not recognize the one from Cableguy, I just remembered that just about anything he says is from TV, as I had seen it just a few days prior. I guess I just wasn't very clear about that. =/

But I digress. I think it's more of our use of things become more extended, we have always been capable of atomic weaponry or anything else really, it's just a matter of us realizing the potential. Oh, and if the supplies can be obtained.

Ah. I see. I just thought because you made the reference to Cableguy, you meant you remembered the Jim Carrey quote.

I think you're right. If you have something, there is always the temptation to use it, or the feeling that use is a necessity when "nothing else works." While I neither condone nor believe that violence solves anything, it's a vicious cycle. In the example Burter use about guns not being useless, because somebody else has one and will use it, it prompts others to defend themselves using the same weapon. We've integrated them into our society, making them almost a requirement to keep par with the technology. After all, you wouldn't use a club to defend against a bullet, would you? Like I said, it's just a means of employed attack/defense, since the only things we naturally have are strength, limited flexibility, and opposable thumbs, and we're not satisfied with those.

What I think we're really talking about is collecting, though. I don't see the harm in that. I myself wouldn't mind owning a few swords and stuff.
