Just think... without those fences, we'd just wake up one morning and someone would have run off with all our jobs!

Snatch 'em right up!

WASHINGTON (AP)-- Republicans will go into the elections with a message that they've made great strides fighting illegal immigration, including authorizing a fence along one-third of the U.S.-Mexico border and making a $1.2 billion down payment on it.

Quote:Senate on Friday night passed and sent to President Bush a bill authorizing 700 miles of fencing on the nearly 2,000-mile long southern border.

Quote:A 14-mile segment of fence under construction in San Diego is costing $126.5 million.

Sweeeeeet.

EDIT:

Oh, and just because we hate money:

Quote:In addition to money for starting work on the fence, a homeland security bill Congress was completing Friday includes $380 million to hire 1,500 more Border Patrol agents

@Eighteen!

The biggest problem is that the US gov't is pushing a bill to require any travel from Canada into the US to require passports or equivalent docs. Which would totally obliterate the trade we do, and cost billions on both sides. And we're kind of dependent on one another, as much as either side would say we're/they're not.

Some of the US Congress kinda realized that, and so pushed a bill to delay said stupidity, which provides a larger timeframe to try and throw it out altogether.

But considering both our governments are profoundly out-of-date an unable to effectively handle... anything... I'm not holding my breath.

I had a witty comment to post, but I changed my mind. This is where it would have been.

I hope they hire illegal immigrants for the Border Patrol jobs.

And @ Canada...We can't survive without our maple syrup and hockey.
