Simply on the grounds that it feels a lot more actiony and interactive than any other MMO I've played, I'll probably buy this. Right now there's no other game like it (though I expect they'll soon become commonplace). And the fact that I can base my action hero on any character I like - well, that's a bonus too. As someone who becomes obsessed with games like Spider-Man and Prototype just for aimlessly running around beating people up, fucking around and jumping over buildings, I probably had no hope of resisting this game.

Content and long-term appeal is another matter entirely, but those are the easy bits to change and add in later.

So, if anyone else gets the "a file is locked and could not be opened for writing" error (or something like that) restarting your comp has been proven to help.

EDIT: The error happens right after the launcher starts. Doesn't even get to the first login.

Open your task manager and end the process called 'ChampionsOnline.exe' is the fix they suggested on the closed beta forums

Oh, general boredom, and other people talking it up. I don't expect to subscribe to the final product in the end, but something might change.

How's the character creation process? Would you say it's better or worse then the CoH/CoV? Or is it in a different category all together?

EDIT: Also, what does it allow for creation wise? Is is true you can customize or 'tweak' your powers to look the way you want them too?

I'd say it's a little bit better than CoH. It's mostly the same, but there are a couple extra things (arm/leg accessories and hip wear) and the graphics are better.

For powers, you can change the colors and some of them allow you to choose where they are shot from (fists, palm, chest, head).

There are also "Power Replacer" items that add extra effects to your attacks. Malignant Lightening, for example, adds either toxic damage or a DoT to lightening attacks.

When you hit 25 you get the option to create a Nemesis for your toon. The Nemesis has the powers and costumes and whatever else you give them and regularly show up to fight you in quests and such. Basically, instead of fighting "RandomNPC_Boss_2873" you get to make your own.

I haven't actually hit 25 yet or bothered to read up on it, so that's as detailed as I can get at the moment.

Yeah, I think it's pretty much epic.

One of those things that City of Heroes players have been asking for for years.

So, I managed to hit 22 by the time servers went down today. Pretty awesome.

What was kind of cool was that they let you take quests even after you've gone waaaay past the level of the quest, so I was able to level while questing through the desert, millennium city, and then back to the desert, and then was able to go to canada and run the content I hadn't originally done.

Starting doing some crafting stuff today, which was kind of cool. It's fairly simple, and they keep a person from being able to just get all the recipes by giving you a limited number of "epiphanies" which are required for some purchases.

I really like the mechanics of combat. The way energy, equilibrium, and your energy building attacks work make fights really interesting. Power Armor itself is a cool set because of the way the toggled attacks work, and I enjoyed that. I finally got a Power Replacer for my attacks, and that was pretty cool (there are waaaay too many Single/Dual Blade replacers).

Being able to pick and choose powers from other power sets was pretty cool, too. I made a DBZ type of character that had some Force attacks and some Martial Arts attacks. My main was mostly Power Armor, but the healing drones from Gadgeteering were awesome and kept the concept.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with the game.
