I think this is the first MMO where I've ever really, truly believed that everything besides combat wasn't simply a sidethought. The environmental puzzles are awesome. I spent an hour on Zraith's beacon yesterday which felt like a free Prince of Persia game, and discovered the secret pirate's cove in Lion's Arch today which was also totally sweet. There are tower defense quests! I was speaking to my friend on mumble while she was on a norn story quest, and talking about how she had to trade things between three different ogres or something to make them all happy. It feels like playing a proper RPG which was actually designed to be enjoyed in of itself.

Shit, I could go on and on about the things they got right in this game. The best by far though is the fact that old content does not get redundant as you level. Was reading this the other day and I found myself nodding furiously at one particular line, which pretty much sums up why I tend to obstinately treat MMO endgame as literally the end of the game for me until expansions come out: it is the introduction of repetition. Really can't wait to see where this game goes with expansions, though. Personally I love some of the NPC races and want to be able to make a skritt or a tengu already.

I'm sort of glad that up until lately I didn't get what made the game any different or interesting, since I'm getting to discover it all now for myself. My thief is only level 20 but I'm having a blast, definitely the right class choice (mesmer was my first pick, but as much as I loved it in theory it just didn't jive with me in practice).

I can teleport to any waypoint at any time; crafting speeds up exponentially when you're doing a lot of shit; I haven't gotten a sense of grinding yet and I'm approaching level 30

The game respects my time. I value it for that.

Yes. In a lot of MMOs I can spend a lot of time without feeling like I've actually done anything, between travelling and waiting for bars to go past and other bullshit. And I think the only reason MMOs have gotten away with that bullshit for so long is because every other MMO does it, it's the expected standard. Just like the sheer grindy-ness of MMOs before WoW came along. I really think GW2 is going to revolutionise the genre the same way WoW did, in that everyone is going to start producing GW2 clones now. It'll probably take several years, because quality of this level takes time, but I can't wait until somebody make something that combines the combat mechanics of TERA with the everything-else-that-is-amazing of GW2.

I would never do anything else ever again if that game comes out.

Level 80 in 97 hours. Woo. Gotta finish up my storyline though.

Oh and fyi, you continue to earn skill points at 80, every 254,000 XP earned.

You can get a ton of skill points from doing all the challenges though, right? That should help lessen the XP needed to max out.

There are over 200 skill challenges in the game and counting. I should think that's more than enough to get all the skills. Still, I didn't know that about continuing to get free points for 'levelling' past 80 and that's super cool.

Skill points are also used somewhere to craft items to be used in the Mystic Forge

Yes, they are used to buy items for crafting. You can easily get all your skills if that's what you want to do... but it takes 200 skill points to buy the item required for crafting the best weapons.

Doing events at 80 gets me like 12k XP so it actually isn't bad.

To folks in Ehmry Bay, I'm in a guild called Gheed's Greed. Bit of a derpy name, but they're a good bunch, and the vent is pretty damn active (minimum of 6 on vent at any one time; usually more). Always running dungeons and stuff
