Hate: Had an argument with people about wired vs. wireless mouses (mice?). The tech has gotten to the point where the lag time is insignificant, and you can charge the mouse or batteries with a charger when you're not using it. So I argued that wireless is better than wired. Anyone have thoughts on it?

Unless you're using the mouse away from your actual desk or whatever, I do think wired is still better. It's consistent and ever so slightly more accurate.

Also most of the really good mice out there are wired, so if you're after something of that level then you're almost always looking at a wired mouse.

That said it's really a personal preference thing so which one is better is kinda trivial.

I argued that the wired mouse's cord can get tangled (which is has for me) as well as being a safety hazard (trip over cords, tangle itself with other cords, etc). The wireless mouse takes up less space and is easier to maneuver. The people I argued with seemed to ignore those points while simultaneously pointing out that wireless eats up batteries (also ignoring the glorious invention of chargeable devices/batteries). I dunno, I see a clear winner in wireless unless you're like MLG pro gamers where fractions of a second matter to winning or losing. That's like what, 100 very specific people?

They can get tangled, yes, but most good quality mice have cords that are semi-rigid and don't tangle so it wont always be an issue. If you're putting a mouse in a place where a cord would be something you can trip over, then you don't have it at the desk and should probably be using a wireless anything (which I did mention!). I don't really see how a wire takes up that much room, especially if you have a wired keyboard, headphones, speakers, etc on your desk anyway.

I don't really see how a wireless mouse is a 'clear' winner, honestly. I think the differences are so minor that imo if you're using it at the desk, use a wired, and if you're using it away from the desk, use a wireless. Other than that, personal preference.

I've used wired mice my entire life and I honestly can't think of a time when the cord has ever gotten tangled while plugged in at my desks. There's always been simply too much space that my cord has to travel when running through the back of my desk and around into my computer for it to ever risk that. It's NEVER been an issue, but even if for some freakish reason I did have so much slack that it could potentially be, I'd just fold up enough wire to get rid of the slack, close to the usb connector (so the weight is supported by the case and not tugging on the mouse), and secure the folds with a twist tie. Or rubber band. Or binder clip. Or string.

My opinion on wireless vs. wired is basically this: can you remember to seat and recharge your shit regularly? If so, then which one you get is strictly preference and will probably be down to whichever one has the model you want. If you're like me, though, and are constantly forgetting to plug in things like your cell phone and iPod, wired will probably win out.

Wires are super annoying. I use wireless and I can't imagine going back. Especially when your PC has a fit and you have to pull it apart, there aren't so many damn cables that get in the way/have to be plugged in. Plus there's the fact that I can use the keyboard anywhere I feel like without the cord restricting me.

The way my current computer is situated, using a wired mouse would require me to clear my entire desk free of anything and everything unless I like having to lift my mouse cord up every minute to get it unstuck from the wall, or untangled from my lamp and pencils and papers and etc (tying it up didn't help much, it just made a thicker obstacle that I'd have to lift). My old setup wasn't much better, since it got buried underneath power cables and USB cords, and accidentally moving the mouse too fast threatened to knock over everything on my desk. This is what I meant by "trip" so sorry for that misunderstanding.

The desks are supplied by my college, and I can't rearrange how I'm seated in them. If I had a wired mouse, oh god I don't even want to imagine the horrors.

I'm mostly just pissed that my friends said "wireless mice are one of the most useless things on the planet." IMO wireless is not only viable but by all intents and purposes better than wired. And they wouldn't give me the time of day. I'm glad you people at least see reason.

You're a dick if you claim you need the higher responsiveness from a wired mouse.

If you don't need the wireless feature, the wired version is cheaper but I figure wired mice are going to become a specialty product (even more so then they already are).
