Maybe it's just me, but Xenogears is more reading than anything else. Most of the time so far (about 9 hours) has been walking to this person, cutscene, walking to this person, cutscene, coming back to this person when I'm done "making preparations" (which is always instant because accruing gold is hard and shopping is useless), cutscene, vamp to new location, cutscene, maneuver your way through about 5 minutes worth of jumping, annoying random battles, anti-climactic boss battle, cutscene, save-point, I close the emulator to go get something to eat and contemplate blowing me head out for wasting 2 hours of my life doing, essentially, absolutely nothing.
Does it get better? Or am I just forgetting the rpg concept? I remember Golden Sun having some long dialogue, but at least you could control the text speed, firstly, and there were lengthy adventure portions where you solved puzzles and leveled. Chrono Trigger I remember had a pretty nice pace, and Pokemon? Forgetaboutit! They knew the fucking business, nobody wants to sit through a goddamn virtual book, they want to level and battle with their pokemanz.
