You MMO people may not mind constantly buying shit for the same game, but I do. They have to make their money, I get it, but doesn't keep it from being gay.
It's pretty much optional though so, not a big deal. Although I remember that first Halo 3 map pack doubled all my lobby times because they'd do the matchmaking and THEN try to load a map that not everyone had. Then you'd have to start over. Annoying.
