That's part of why I tightened the "attackable" ratio to what I did. I was trying to encourage developing your armies and fighting each other while growing at a slower pace, gearing up and actually going through to upgrade your gear to the more expensive gear.
What happened in reality (primarily due to exponential growth) is that people just spent the entire game clicking their recruit button for every turn until they had a billion soldiers, then clicked income a couple times to build up some gear or training. The complete opposite of what I intended.
I think a few changes I would make if I were able (remember, I had to rush out with things since people insisted on an immediate reset that actually happened a night before the real one due to impatience), which entirely takes into account the fact that the console doesn't allow the types of changes I was hoping for, would be to make soldier growth static instead of exponential. Something to the effect of 10 soldiers per Recruit. Any percentage creates massive scaling issues.
I would also extend the saved number of turns to about 8 hours, to allow people to sleep or go to work without killing their chance at a fight. The reason is to reduce the absolute gap that occurs between those that can efficiently spend every turn through whatever methods they have available, and those that aren't as hardcore about it and play when able. While I have nothing against hardcore play, and in fact enjoy it greatly (though I didn't participate in it with this game), I do have something against the majority of the players not actually enjoying the game. If only three people are enjoying it, then its an abysmal failure in my eyes. I'd like to see more people actively fighting back and forth.
I also highly do not like posting intel publicly. To me, that violates the entire spirit of the game; if this is what is happening, then we may as well remove spies entirely and just make all information visible. Another point is that while some people would like things to be adjusted for team structuring, other than a few specific people, I don't forsee hardcore team based strats happening. For the most part, my forums were devoid of anyone posting other than myself and maybe one or two other people.
That said, I'm resetting on the 15th. This gives those with things to do some time to do them (although I highly doubt anyone has anything left that they wish to do) while also letting people know in advance when they can be prepared.
Also, Waff, would it be possible to put into place a way for someone to "destroy" their village so that they are removed from the game until the next time its reset? Or at least an option that allows them to turn off PM notification of being attacked so that they can ignore it if they decide that they wish to no longer participate? If it can't be made optional, I'm sure more people would prefer to see that PM turned off completely than to be on.
