An individual's opinion of a specific genre is largely irrelevant to it's impact as a "movement" (in this case). There's no denying the influence that the hip-hop subculture has had over the last twenty years.
Some of it is music, but it extends far beyond that. Clothing, cars, personal accessories and physical mannerisms are all things that people have adopted as a result of said movement.
I agree with you, most hip-hop is nothing more than worthless verbal-diarrhea, but I'm not about to say that it hasn't impacted our culture in a significant way.
