I've just been spoiled by open world rpgs. I like being able to do whatever I want. Oblivion, Fallout (not saying these were the first ones), but they changed my entire perspective on gaming. You can do so much more then just the main quest.
That's just what bugs me, I guess. I was looking forward to this game for years, and it's not what I wanted it to be. I love the fighting, and the story intrigues me. But it doesn't seem to have the sheer depth of the Final Fantasies I liked (6, 7, 8, 9, 10). This is from a persons perspective who has never played it for more then 10 minutes, but it's what I've heard. One of my friends, who has played a total of 47 hours of gameplay, warned me that the world felt shallow. That it was a great game, but it lacked something that made it into a great Final Fantasy.
