If you're being put under, it will literally be the best sleep of your life. You'll wake up with a bit of a sore throat and the area of the operation will throb a little. You'll wake up in a recovery room; once you're alert enough they'll move you to your real room. I'm assuming you're doing outpatient, in which case you'll get to nap for a while until you can hold liquid and use the bathroom by yourself and they check your BP and fun stuff like that. It'll take at least an hour due to the meds, but it's way relaxing (as a novice, don't rush this). Then you go home with a nice prescription for painkillers.
As it has been mentioned, doctors will do everything they can to make sure the procedure goes smoothly. If you're still worried on surgery day, let the doctor/nurse know! They deal with anxious patients all the time and can soothe you better than any of us can. You'll be fine!
