Well, lets see, my review? The new generation V Pokemon are a little lack-luster looking, design-wise, but even with that fault I have to say I've really enjoyed what they've done (and with trying to come up with hundreds of different creatures for 3-4 years, I would expect some of the stuff they come up with to be subpar) They've made some really smart game-design decisions, and the upgrade to 3D backgrounds was done in good taste.
They've also made some nice changes to the story formula; it's not just you chasing after your rival! You and two of your friends start the journey together, and generally they're the ones catching up to you. Plus, they're exploring some interesting themes that the series has only ever broached lightly before: is catching and battling with Pokemon ethical? (real life answer: no, pokemon answer: murky, their entire world/culture is based around these creatures and even self-aware Pokemon don't seem to mind being captured to fight) It's also got a nice tongue-in-cheek feel to it, that while subtle, is present.
Honestly, one of the best Pokemon games I've played in years. I'd give it a 4 out of 5. If they ever decide to update one of the older generations with these new design decisions, I'd bite.
