I pretty much agree 100% with Dariden about Orianna's build. Orianna/Lux/Morgana all function very well as supportive characters but only if you build them as AP-tastic casters.
Orianna is absolutely AMAZINGLY fun to play once you get the hang of her. It can be kind of hard to keep track of the ball at times (I know Dariden and I have both raged when it will suddenly leash back to us when we hit R... grrr).
Dariden said pretty much what I think about Ori's build. Rylai's passive blows because it's just W/R. I had never considered a Mejai's, though, since I hate snowballing. For her and Lux/Morgana, though, they have pretty decent escapability. I'll have to try that soon.
BEAR IN MIND, THOUGH, that it would probably be better to learn a more pure support character first if you're doing this to learn a support champ. I'm talking, like, Soraka/Taric. Since I've started maining supports, I've noticed MASSIVE improvement in my Ori/Morgana games (since they're more caster than support) solely for paying better attention to their shields and having a better concept of when to use them to best help my team. Well, every time I've played Ori recently, I've had connectivity issues BUT BESIDES THAT.
