You may have excessively tense extensors or felxors (or both) in your forearm. If you are often gripping, writing or typing, this is most often the case. A lot of doctors will over diagnose arthritis because it's fairly easy to assume that and muscle tension will lead to the same kinds of effects. In fact, this kind of muscle tension often exacerbates or CAUSES arthritis!
You can check for muscle tension in your arms by palpation (feeling them) for firmness or you might even feel small areas of tension. These are called "trigger points." These aren't ALWAYS the problem, but they very well could be!
Could you be more specific about what area of the hand you're having problems in?
