"Oh..." Burter repeated, more to himself then to his now older companion. He couldn't describe the feelings moving through his mind at the time. At one point, he was very happy for his friend, but then he couldn't believe that he not only didn't know her age, the reptile didn't even know it was her birthday. How could he be so blind? "Well, shit, Bra," he finally spoke up. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I didn't think you'd care," she shrugged, taking her seat on the chair behind her. Her voice was low, as if she now wasn't as fiery as she previously was. The reptile sat down as well, sighing.
"I didn't get you anything..." he started, trying to think of something, anything, that he could give her. "I didn't even know it was your birthday..."
Bra once again shrugged, a sign of her becoming a teenager. She just didn't care on the outside, but you could see through the young girl's exterior and know how much it meant to her. "No big deal," she lied, following up with the multi-purpose shrug.
"Wait," Burter said suddenly. He reached down to his wrist, putting two fingers over the silver bracelet he always carried. On it was the word, inscribed in gold, Always With You.
"Whoa, hold on," Bra said, putting her hand out to stop him. "No way, you always wear that thing. I cant take that."
"You can and you will," the reptile replied with a stubborn tone about him. He took the bracelet off and placed it gently into the palm of her open hand. "My brother, Lakon, gave me this years ago. With it, I have always felt connected to him, as if...as if he was still here with me. I hope this bracelet makes you feel the same way."
"Wow...I...I dont know what to say, Burter," Bra said, absolutely astounded at the sudden present.
"Happy Birthday, kid," Burter grinned and got up. "Hey, Kami! We're leaving, you comin? Plenty of shit to blow up!"
"I'm right behind you!" Kami said with a matching grin. Paragus came out of his corner as the four prepared to leave.
