They had been walking along some time through the forest. It seemed endless, and it was pretty creepy. Only thin rays of light passed through the roof of leaves now, and had been since awhile back. It was starting to look like Mirkwood in the Hobbit, though, there were not fourteen, but two.
"Alright. Where to go now? I think I understand how this place works...slightly. But, I don't think we have very much instruction about all of this...how exactly are we supposed to defend the Digital World? From what? Are we supposed to put on costumes and fly around like Superman?" Matsuo questioned. He talked a bit more freely around his digimon now, as he began to come up to the idea of being a Digidestined. It didn't seem half bad, though, he would need to learn as much as he could about this place.
"Well, I think we are supposed to just keep the peace." DemiMeramon still floated by the man's side. "It's a pretty basic concept, I must say. Just roll with the punches and we should be perfectly fine. We can do anything you and I! Especially after I digivolve! I'll be so great, I bet I'll be fantastic!"
"Don't get your hopes up. Life is filled with many disappointments." Matsuo looked to the ground. He shuffled his cigarette from one side of his mouth to the order. He looked up to the sky again. "When the hell does this bloody place end?"
"Soon, I think. I came here a long time ago, waiting for you. You're years late you know! Been waiting so long for you...Lonely here too. Most digimon in this forest are pretty paranoid of outsiders like me! I never really knew why..." The digimon sighed at the memories that flowed through his mind.
"Maybe it's because you're a ball of flame. Big turnoff for forest creatures." Matsuo looked back up at the sky, scanning it for any form of life. A few questions popped up in his head just then. Did this world obey the laws of science? Would things actually burn here? Was that programmed in? How long did it take? How is this all possible? It was still hard for him all to comprend. How could this be done?
His eyes widened as a scene from years ago returned to him.
"You can do nearly anything, Dad!" The boy turned towards his father from his computer chair. He was looking in confused about what his son was doing at the machine. They both observed as a man moved across the screen after the boy typed in a long command. Then, the boy put in more code, and the man picked up a stick and started to wack it around. "Anything!"
"Maybe it is possible. Anything can be possible." Matsuo muttered to himself. DemiMeramon heard, but didn't dare to go in close again. The digimon didn't want another accident to occur. He didn't want to make another mistake. The two went onward through the woods, into nowhere, until...
They came upon a clearing. It was a perfectly round one, with long grass. Not many creatures were around for some reason. But, Matsuo didn't really care about that. He was happy for a change in scenery. The perfect place for a nice break. No worries now!
He dashed into the center of the area and his digimon followed. "About time! Whoo! Teh sun is in the sky! Leetness!" Matsuo shouted cheerfully before returning to his normal sad state. "Time for a break." He laid down on the ground, and DemiMeramon followed above him.
"Are you sure? This isn't the best area. We are near the forest border, and this strip of land is where some bad digimon wander around. Maybe we should just move on..." The creature had a worried expression, but Matsuo ignored him.
"No worries. After all of this walking and talking, I could use a bit of laying back and relaxing, don't you agree? There is a time to be serious, and a time not to be." Matsuo remembered the days back at school when he was a serious student, then came back home and chilled on the computer. He always had quick changes in personality like this. Unfortuately, that wasn't always the right choice...
"Hey! Some trumpy in-training dope is on our land! Get 'em!" A shout came from the trees. Matsuo leapt to his feet. "And he's got some thing with 'em!"
"I told you this was a bad area!" DemiMeramon scolded Matsuo by hitting him across the face. "Stand back! I've got this covered. Let's see what kind of digimon they really are!"
Two monsters leapt from the bushes that surrounded the clearing. They looked like mushrooms, but had faces, and were much more devious. They charged at them with shouts of 'Fungus Crusher!' They shot into the air and hovered right over Matsuo.
"What the hell are those things!?" Matsuo staggered backwards tripping over a stone.
"Mushroommon!" DemiMeramon moved in front of him. "Get back! I can handle these guys! I can defend you!" The little fireball got slammed by the two devilish mushrooms as he said this, but broke away from them with a few fiery punches and of course shouting the name of the attack 'Petty Burning Fist!'
"Wow, that guy has a bit of fight in him!" Matsuo got up and brushed himself off as he watched his partner fight to the end in his defence. The digimon had a look of anger on his face. Anger that his partner was under siege. Programmed emotion? How was that poss- It didn't matter. The little guy needed his help! Program or no program!
The Digidestined ran over to the side of the clearing and ripped off the branch of a tree, quickly returning to see the two mushrooms nearly destroying the little fellow. In a quick act of despiration, Matsuo shouted at them. "Hey noobz! You got no skillz! I'll pwn you with my uber leetness! Fear my ninja powa!" He leapt into the area and used the stick like a samurai sword to try to beat them back. Not the best idea.
The mushrooms jumped on Matsuo and pulled him down to the ground and began to pummel him senseless.
"OMG! HAX!"
"Oh no, you don't! Don't lay a finger on him!"
