The breath of the soldiers billowed visibly into the frigid air. They stood in formation, Broli at their head, all waiting for the command for the battle to ensue. While the men were fresh from days of rest, the snowy environment slowed their blood flow, the warmth of neighboring men of the formation being the only center of warmth. The tower lay before them, its soldiers ready to fight. Though he could not be seen amongst the Syntech army, Vegeta was there, ready to battle this to the very end. Past the tower stood the Fusion unit, impatiently waiting for the fight to start. Three commanders had arrived on the field, but not all three would walk off alive. It had been some time since the forces of Dante had met the banners of Syntech. Nearly a week had passed since that day at Fate?s Tower when most of the Syntech officers had been killed. Through a unique array of luck, Vegeta had not been present, the Saiya-Jin Prince shortly realizing afterwards that he was the new acting Commander of Syntech. Would he pick up the army from the dirt in which it lay face first? Would he bring true glory to Syntech, making a name for himself as the warrior who led his men to their deaths in the final stand against Dante?
Broli had nothing to say to his soldiers. They knew as well as he did the necessity of this battle. The battle at Hillside had allowed his troops to get back into the groove of things, as waiting around for days on end had no doubt made them rusty. So there they stood, waiting and eager to finish the army that they had crippled long before now. A gust of cold air passed over the Outland unit, each soldier pulling his clothing tighter around him. Broli?s Lieutenant, the Konat Minoshia, stood at his side, ready for orders. ?Vegeta?s not stupid. He won?t be pulled from his tower.?
The Commander was right. Aztec Tower held the only real tactical advantage, and Vegeta knew that as well as Burori did. The Saiyan Prince would not be foolish enough to avoid its use. Broli, however, was not going to allow his enemy to use the tower against him. ?Give the order to the snipers.? Minoshia listened attentively. ?We?ll move in at the same time as Fusion, hitting Syntech from both sides. I want the snipers to focus on the men at the top of that tower. Force them to fight us on the ground.? The Konat nodded, passing the orders along to the snipers. The Saiyan knew that if he could rain fire on the top of the tower, Syntech would be unable to use it as an advantage point over the Dante forces. Sure, they would still be able to take cover in it, but Burori knew that the threat of enemy fire from atop the tower on his attacking troops would be eliminated.
?Snipers, fire a round across the Syntech line. I want them anxious.? The snipers each took a knee, aiming through the sights of their weapons. With a series of rings, the shots boomed out. They were out of range of the Syntech force and so no hope existed for a stray bullet to catch a soldier. Still, Broli hoped that the shots would at least make his enemy jumpy. When each sniper had taken a shot, they returned to the line, and the waiting began once again. On the other side of the battlefield, Fusion waited as well, no doubt looking for the first movement from Outland. All soldiers on the field waiting anxiously for the battle to begin. Dante fought for glory and to end the nagging threat that halted their progress towards victory. Syntech, on the other hand, stood ready and willing to fight for all that remained to them ? their lives.
