So Retane and I talked over AIM recently. There's a concern of mine that everyone needs to be aware of: I can not monitor individual storylines. If you want your character go off and do something on their own they will be left out.
I fully understand and appreciate some of you wanting to splinter off and try to be the odd man out, or try to develope some intricate side-story, but I just don't have the time or energy to try to monitor everything everyone does and make sure it works into the story.
That does not mean, however, that I'm to force all of you to RP together and get along and all of that. You want to do your own thing, cool, I'm hip to that, but it needs to fit into the story as its laid out. I've tried to make the "next step" pretty obvious as far as the story is concerned, and I've done that for a reason.
There are currently two perfect examples of what I'm talking about:
Retane
What he's doing: following the Lord et al and trying to find out information.
Who he's "with": no one.
My reaction: I have nothing for Retane to do and no information to give out about the Lord or anyone else right now. Where he is, Retane (as a character) is completely useless and can not be worked into the story as it stands.
Piccolo/17
What they're doing: raiding a pyramid to find an artifact for the Dragonborne.
Who they're "with": everyone else in the pyramid.
My reaction: they've stated several times that they plan on doing their own thing and moving at their own pace. Awesome. It works with story exactly as it has been laid out, but they're not being tied into a group they don't want to be in.
Those are just a couple of examples, mind you, but they're not the only ones doing this. Just remember, the story is set up the way its set up on purpose. If I had more time, or if a full understanding of the story ( >=O @ Trunks ) then this probably wouldn't be a problem. But I don't and it is.
