In the beginning, yeah, there are several groups of enemies that look similar, but it also depends on where you are. You could go fight the zombie-esque Vazhilok, or the mechanical Clockwork, beat some of the Circle of Thorns, it really depends on the player. Its definitely easy to get sucked into Outcasts/Hellions/Skulls/Lost who all look pretty similar, but if you're willing to jump around the zones, then you can fight some pretty diverse enemies.

Also, with Police Band missions from Issue 8, you can choose between three missions you want to take. Occasionally all three will be the same group of enemies, but you usually get a choice, meaning you can really gear your toon to fighting a specific set of villians, if you want. Case-in-point, my Invulnerability/ tanker only has decent resistance to smashing a lethal damage, so I try to fight Skulls, Trolls, or Vazhilok when I can. Hellions, Arachnos, and Circle of Thorns are a pain because of my poor elemental and energy resistances.

Like any game, you get out of it what you put into it. If you just run the same thing as everyone else, yeah, its going to get real boring real fast. If you play around with different contacts, different zones, Task Forces, story arcs and so on you can get a whole bunch of different content each time you play.

Guild Wars, since the comparison was made, is ridiculously linear compared to CoH. Yeah, there's no monthly fee, but GW is way more like a LANing an otherwise single player game than it is a co-op (only talking about PvE, of course).

As for PvP, a lot of people have said they really enjoy PvPing. You really have to build your character around it, but it can certainly be done. And there are a bunch of different ways to do it, too. Great example happened a few days ago: when I think about making a PvP character, I generally considering maximizing my resistances and my status protection, because in MMOs I generally prefer the characters with lower damage, but higher survivability. Well Waff had jumped into a PvP match and was up against a Corruptor villian. For those who don't know, Corruptors are moderate damage/low hit point Archetypes with buff/debuff powers. Waff players a scrapper, which have great damage and the second best survivability of the Hero Archetypes. Speaking in generalities, the scrapper should win that fight. Thise corruptor, however, had built his character are the slowing effects of ice powers. Waff can probably tell you better than I can, but his Hero was pretty much shut down. So much Slow had been stacked on him that he his powers pretty much weren't recharging and he moved so slowly that he couldn't get within striking distance of the range-oriented corruptor. It was a great execution of a very concept-based character.

My point is that PvP is a lot more diverse than people in CoH give it credit for. Just because everyone plays energy melee Stalkers or stone armor Tankers doesn't mean that's the only way to PvP.

I most certainly agree. Just because Stalkers and Stone Armor Tanks are the norm, doesn't mean it's the only good PvP combination. For instance, I remember I was fighting this Ice/Storm troller; I couldn?t touch him due to his AoE power 'Ice Slick' and his storm power. Then he kept holding me, and I was basically stuck there. While I was stuck he kept nailing me with his pet Jack Frost. In the end, I basically was owned so hard that my head began to spin. ><
