And they're being NPC'd because the goal is to eventually go all customs.
But why? >.>
I'm just surprised that Chubbs has jumped from the idea of even allowing custom characters to making everyone custom.
The original intent was all custom. I don't know why you've missed that.

This is totally bogus. I was against it to begin with, but agreed to help, but if you guys are seriously gonna be like, I want out. This whole thing is one trainwreck to another

That's what I'm wondering. I hope it's not to do with like, copyright, but that's the only thing I can think of. o_0

No, I'm saying that over the past couple of years we've juggled the idea of allowing people to do custom characters. Now we've jumped over that completely and are in the mode of trying to convert the entire RPG to custom.
I just want to know why. Why can Canon and Custom not coexist? Why can't you just let the people who want to be custom go custom, and let the people who have invested time and effort into their canons and who want to keep those canons do so?
Edit: And I still want to know who's making these rulings. Obviously, if a Super Moderator has no idea, I'd like to know exactly who is on this committee of revamping the RPG as we know it.

The idea is also to reset if I'm not mistaken.

I am probably going to rejoin very soon based on the whole change in my life as of recently. You know most members are going to go for Saiyan, right? I don't know what I'd choose, it'd depend on my mood really.

I think I'm inclined to respond with this:
![[Image: whomp.jpg]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/Nezumi16/whomp.jpg) ![[Image: whomp.jpg]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/Nezumi16/whomp.jpg)
Canons cause a LOT of problems for us. We get skewed histories with people joining as someone forming all these relations and then someone else taking the character and all of the relations for those who remained are now totally screwed.
You're getting to keep your canon characters, I fail to see the issue.

Oh please, don't act like changing histories really has that much of a burden on staff members. Are you honestly going to tell me that getting rid of the ability to have canon characters is because you're tired of figuring out who has ties with who? Do I even need to remind you, Waff, that it really doesn't matter for you anyway, seeing as how you don't roleplay?
Honestly, that comment really did it for me. I can't believe you guys can't come up with a good reason for a change as big as this.
Edit: Really, for the years I've been here, I've never had a big problem with characters getting tossed around. I've known several Tapions, a multitude of Cells, and the like. And sure, there's been a few times where I've just found myself confused and thinking, "Wait, wait. I thought you were this character, but you're not?" But it's never been an RPG-crippling issue that needs to be addressed. Is this really the only reason?

Yes, but nobody else would be able to join as those characters, as if you've stated before. Our issue is with losing to an MIA check, wanting to rejoin as our old dude, then not being able to because of this new regime. It would be the same person playing the same character. I fail to see the issue with that.

Perhaps Staff could limit the amount of people who can be Saiyans, or something. *Shrug*
I don't think everyone will go for Saiyans personally, I may be completely wrong though. Oh and just to throw my two cents out there, I personally love the idea of creating your own custom character. But at the same time I can totally see where people like Broli and Burter are coming from, it does seem a bit harsh to take years of hardwork and history and flush it down the drain.

- Characters and who is piloting them, and history issues involved - Who was Piccolo during this event? "I want to play Goku now that he's open." "I just became Vegeta and I don't want to roleplay any of the previous history because this is my character and I should be given the creativity to roleplay him as I desire." "I'm playing Pan and I'm a 12 year old girl, so how did I get married and give birth to Jun'ai, much less Goku Jr over time who is older than me." "Hi, I'm Gohan and I'm also 13 myself, with my younger brother Goten being 19 and my daughter Pan being 12 years old, although I have never met Videl who is referring to her as being her daughter."
- Character limitations - Let's be serious. We allow people to build a character to be whoever they want, but if you have to choose between Puara and Oolong and you are hellbent on making a hardcore pitfighting badass, no matter how cool that would be, its hard to imagine the average roleplayer as wanting to work through this. It can be difficult and drain you creatively to the point that you are pushing a river uphill.
- Numbers of characters open as a result - "All the good characters are gone! I'm just going to wait till someone good opens then." "Trunks just opened up? OMG, I've always wanted him but I got screwed into having to take Oolong since he was the best of the choices I had available. But I want to roleplay him my way... I don't want to feel forced to roleplay whatever someone tells me to write." "Ok, how long are we going to allow Vegeta to be 'away' indefinately before we have to release his character to the public? Let's let someone play him since its been three months- Fuck, he's back now, what to do."
- Switching is a pain in the ass, but who are we to tell people "You must stick with a character that you are unhappy with because we said so!"
- Artistic Interpretation is entirely bias. Yes, its based entirely on who the staffer that happens to be reading it feels about the image, and that can differ based on which character it is and who the person is piloting the character. This is another large issue the members have against us.
- When someone is on hold we have to change their roster to inactive and explain to every single newbie that comes here why they can't have that character just to look like hypocrites as they always seem to find the one event where we contradict ourselves.
- "Why can't I be Gotenks or Trunks Unified? Why is Trunks a special character, I don't get it!"
- "Why can't I join as a custom character? REIJIN is a custom. Is it because staffers get special treatment?"
- "So what if I want a Saiyan, look at what most of you are. How can you sit there and tell me that I shouldn't want it when you yourselves chose it. Stop giving us shit over it."
- Who's the current monarch of Vejita-sei? Is it Vejita II, Vejita I, Trunks, WHO? Oh, its changing as much as the person playing Pan. What about who the current guardian is of Earth? Is it Dende now or Kami? What if someone "suddenly returns to playing Kami" but someone is still playing Dende, and Kami doesn't want to be guardian, what then? Should we tell them they can't play the character they built?
- "Why the hell can I not play Vejita Jr if the person holding the character never posts as him? What's Kiwi retired for? You released Turles, why not release Kiwi?"
- "I was Dabura three years ago, so why can't I be Dabura now?"
- "I'll never be as strong as those that have been here for years. You say if I work hard I can be stronger than Raditzu, but do I really care to work that hard? What about people who are uber strong but rarely ever roleplay, and yet they still will always win."
- Stats have to be here, or its not a DBZ RPG. That's why Puara cannot beat Raditzu, even if he out roleplays, b/c of the stats, it just makes sense. Oh, wait, the stats don't matter in ANY saga. Wait, they do matter, but just a little bit. No, they matter a lot here. Now just a little bit. Nope, they don't matter at all. Excuse me, but could the staff get their shit together and tell me exactly how they matter so I know how to build my character? If stats don't matter at all, then why should I train anything other than mentals just for their perks? Why should I even train other than Zeni gain? If stats don't matter, then should I bother purchasing armor? If they don't matter, then the RoSaT is useless unless I'm just dying to roleplay and can't do that anywhere else, right? If they don't matter, then why even have them at all and why be against resetting the stats? If they don't matter, then why should the penalty for switching even make me blink? Wait, stats matter again? If so, then how does Android 17 manage to overcome Reijin during battle? If so, then how is Oolong even touching Raditzu and not disentigrating from sheer XTREMEness?
- Pebble Logic complaints.
- "I don't want someone else to roleplay as Bardock, since some noob would tarnish his name. But its not like there are many other characters left for selection given the limited canon characters. So lets try to be subtle and slip him in there and- Sir, 8 people are asking to join as him or switch to him since he's a Saiyan, but they want to give him amnesia, a case of split personality in which they constantly fight with their other self, and a dark side to allow them to go do evil things with absolutely no reason."

And for the record, my irritation is stemming from the fact that staff (if even that, apparently it's a select few making decisions) wants to eventually make Chubbs completely custom.
I'm understanding that I'll be able to keep my canon. At least, for a little while. =\

We've got plenty of reasons. Whether or not they're good will be up for debate indefinitely. We are examining these problems, and good responses to it as a team.
Everyone on the Staff is working on these rulings. Some are perhaps being a little overzealous in posting what is still developing information, but rest assured that this isn't just two members having a joy ride.

I'm not too concerned about the race thing. We'll have enough options, I'm sure.

We're members before we're staffmembers. We won't enact changes to make it no longer fun here or to ruin the place. I don't know why you guys seem to think that.

Waff, please don't make anymore rulings until you've cleared it with us in the development forum. It's not just me, another staffer brought it up to me as well. Let's try and keep on the same page so the members don't get confused.
As of now, ALL RULINGS POSTED ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.
Nothing is finalized.

Thanks for the list on why custom characters is a good idea.
Can I get the one, now, on why canon characters should be eliminated completely? I think I saw two, maybe three, on that list that could apply.
Krillin, staff is obviously not all working on these rulings. I direct you to Burter.

In an effort to defend all points, keep in mind that, as I just posted, everything is still being discussed. The only thing we have finalized is that Canada doesn't count.
