I'm definitely rich. Dunno what you're talking about.

Sell stuff, REM.

It likes to give you gil in huge but infrequent chunks.

I'm finally moving onto chapter 12 after getting up to the Faultwarrens and doing a bit of that. After looking at some suggestions I figured I didn't need to do all these quests before leaving chapter 11, I'm probably way overlevelled at this point. >_>

Well I am still pretty early, but I hate selling stuff. I am a big hoarder.

No, it doesn't really like giving you gil.

Fortunately, there isn't really a need for gil for the first... oh... 9 or 10 chapters.

So, let me tell you what: Eidolons are life-savers.

I was fighting a Feral Behemoth in the Gapra Whitewood lower levels, right? After it starts letting you lead as Lightning. There were other little creatures that came with it, and unfortunately shortly after we defeated the underlings Hope went down and I found myself lacking in Pheonix Downs (which will never happen again).

Lightning's dying over here and - good medic though she is - she can't heal herself fast enough. So I pull out Odin as a last-ditch effort, let the Behemoth focus on him till his Gestalt gauge is full, then pull out Gestalt mode and finish him off by pushing out the Eidolon attacks one after the other. It was a good day, to say the least.

I read some critiques of this game saying it was nothing more than a string of cut-scenes and battles down a hallway with pretty wallpaper.

I have to wonder if they've played the other modern Final Fantasies.

Or pretty much any "JRPG" (I really hate that term).

I've seen that complaint as well and, really, it makes about as much sense as complaining about box art.

I don't get how just because it's been done before that it's okay.

It's still bad.

It doesn't mean it's ok.

It means if you're expecting something else, don't bitch when you're wrong.

That would be like complaining about Dynasty Warriors using the same story every time. Like shiiiiit don't buy the game if that's not what you want.

EDIT: Additionally, I've never considered it a bad thing.

I think because the story is fucked in this one. It's far too hard to sink in and let the game surround you and let yourself be immersed with the story because the story is so fucking hard to keep up with. It doesn't help that the only way to catch up is reading message logs, as it doesn't give the same feel as *living* it like the other Final Fantasies seemed to deliver. Perhaps this is why they notice the gameplay.

I rather like the linear-ness of the game. I didn't think I would, but it's actually a nice break from the openworld stuff I've been playing lately.

EDIT: I'd also like to note that I have been totally immersed in the story without reading a single datalog. Jussayin'.

No game is going to make you read stuff to feel immersed. That'd be like George Lucas asking you to wait twenty years for him to make the prequels before watching the original Star Wars.

EDIT2: Chapter 5 boss sucks!

That was definitely not my experience.

That's evidently only you as just about anyone else gets the story clunked up (specifically names, it seems) with a desperate need to read through message log just to get it in properly.

I recall you suggesting to Szar to read through the message logs to get the names right, so it can't have been a complete strange phenomenon to you.

Might have been Saz, actually.

It was Saz.

That was my suggestion (since it makes sense that reading about the story helps understand... I know. Woah) but I never had that problem myself.

It definitely took me a while to get names of things straight (for example, it took quite a while before i realized Pulse was a planet), but I'm really enjoying the story.

I've only read a datalog here or there, and I'm digging and understanding the story.

Problem with datalogs in visual games like these though is that I just want to play the game, and it makes reading a chore.

I'd probably devour the whole datalog if it was in book form or in Wikipedia form online. I'd look into that, but I don't want to get spoiled.

The datalog reviewing recent events when you load up is pretty nifty, I only play 30 minutes to an hour here or there, so it's a good way for me to keep up with what's going on. I'm also starting to get to grips with all the different words which helps me as far as enjoying the story more, since I have a much better understanding of what's going on. It is confusing though, the game asks quite a lot from you. For you to get engaged with the finer parts of the story you really have to make an effort, well for me atleast.

Just completed it, a little let down by the ending but looking forward to the endgame.
