I JUST WATCHED UFC 108 Countdown. It was fricken hilarious. When they introduced Rashad Evans, they put "Former Light Heavyweight Champion" instead of his record unlike how the other fighters have been introduced as. Maybe its cuz he has like 4 knockout wins.. Just thought it was funny.

argh, that was harsh. i was hoping that hazelett would pull it out with another nice submission, but he tried to do a whole round on his feet. there was a mirrored exchange, and hazelett landed first with a light left hook (throwing daley off just a little bit) but daley's left hook was just so strong he powered through and got a full KO.

Once you learn the gist of how the fights work in terms of the difference between a boxing match and an mma fight, it's essentially the same as keeping up with boxers.

edit: there's a definite learning wall, not a curve. once you get over it, though, it's all gravy.

Thiago Silva is just overrated, definitely better than mid-level fighters but with his striking he's only good enough to hang out around the bottom of the top 5 in LHW. He has some bjj skill (none of the other top5 LHW have blackbelt in bjj?) so it's kinda frustrating that he has zero gameplan on the ground.

I've never liked Rashad, because I know he's not much of a striker and that's all he's done since getting into the UFC. With Couture in retirement and Tito only recently returning, UFC's LHW has no serious wrestler in title contention. This is as good a time as any for him to get back to his strength.

I was hoping for the same thing. Dustin Hazelett's submissions are all one in a million. You can't even think of it until you've seen him do it, which is why he garnered so much attention and built quite a pretty big fanbase now. Even he was surprised to get the most cheers when he went to MGM Grand for the promo. The thing I didn't like about the fight was, Hazelett said in the pre-fight interview that he wasn't going to be one of thoes BJJ Practitioners that go to stand up with strikers, and yet he did just that. How disappointing.

UFC 108 wasn't my favorite event. Fighters I rooted for lost, and they all lost in ways that they shouldn't. Dustin didn't try to take Daley down or pull guard, Joe Lauzon gassed after the first round. God damn it....

Martin Kampmann, Jim Miller and Dos Santos won though, which I'm happy for. Fricken Junior Dos Santos just knocked Yvel's head clean off with that punch. Good stuff. I think Dana said that if he won the fight he would be ready for the title? Interesting where Junior goes with this.

Also, Thiago was an idiot not to press the action after he hurt Rashad with that overhand, but I'm glad he didn't win and how Rashad EASILY took Thiago down before he got owned by the overhand. It was nice seeing the old wrestler Rashad in the ring again, was beginning to forget how lethal his double leg was.
