Nice to know that in one day Cryptic can take my reasonably competent character that wasn't overpowered at all and break it over its knee with a sickening crack.
He's actually unplayable now. His defenses suck, his damage sucks, and his support sucks. All due to the nerfs handed out today that cut every single one by like 50% or more.
Yay whiners.

What powers of yours got exploded?

PFF was already pretty bad, but the defensive power nerfs pretty much made it useless.
Eye Beam was my single target damage, and ranked up to 3 with a rank 3 Form boosting its damage, it was pretty good. It now does less damage than my newbie energy dump, which is rank 1, ticking for 80-120 when I can blast mobs very quickly for 400 damage with Force Blast. The fact that it costs next to no Energy doesn't even matter - it's not like energy is a limited resource.
Medical Drones probably did need a nerf, but their healing should've been cut in half. Instead, they cut the healing in half, and added an 8 second or something cooldown to their heal. They're basically f*cking worthless in their current form.

Did you find notes on the forums or something?
Their official patch notes give absolutely no details about what was tweaked between beta and release.

Trial and error and whining, mostly.
Their patch notes are awful and don't even remotely detail the amount of shit they did between headstart and release.
And see, that's the thing that pisses me off. I got a three day headstart and, teamed up with my brother, leveled our characters to around 30. He's 31 and I'm 27. I wasn't the greatest solo, but I could still do it.
Bam, release date hits, and suddenly I'm Gimpy McGimptastic, and die whenever someone looks at me funny. I can't help but feel like these changes weren't even tested before they were shoved out the door.
25% increase to mob damage while slashing most Defensive passives AND Offensive passives by 50% seems just excessive.

I 100% agree about that. So far it seems Power Armor (which is what I'm maining) hasn't been changed too much. Definitely lots of people with similar complaints on the zone chats, though.

I'm amazingly tempted but is it worth it?

I think it's a lot of fun. They're obviously still tweaking some stuff, but if you can't handle that from an MMO that's only a week old, you should give it some time.
I'd suggest it over, say, WoW. Being a Superhero is just cool.

Yeah that's what pulled me in. I've bought it on Steam, just waiting for the download now. =D

They did a really good job of delivering on their "action" MMO combat system, in my opinion. Fights just seem a lot more interesting than they have in pretty much any other MMO I've played.

Are the servers down? I've spent all day downloading this thanks to some crappy problem with my net and now I can't play it? >=(

There's a good chance.
They've been in the habit of doing maintenance from about 1 to about 3 PST.

Had a bit of play with the power suit powers, pretty fun so far. I've heard I should steer clear of the eyebeams, just bought the concussion blast so i hope that's good. Made an ice and lightning guy but haven't gotten far with them.

It's all about the Minigun for Power Armor.
I was underwhelmed by the Eye Beams, and just bought the Wrist Blaster "Automated Assault" advantage instead of taking a power that's also in the "Hand" Slot.

Eye Beams used to be great. Then idiots complained about it being overpowered because they didn't block it after 7 seconds of GIANT BEAMS HITTING THEIR CHARACTER, which is when it really started to do big damage.

So fiddled around with the character creation at the Champions Online booth at PAX, then made an electric type. It's similar to CoH in some ways, but honestly it's a lot smoother moving from mob to mob. And I like the stylized look. The CoH models (as I remember them), were pretty clunky looking.

Yeah things like this need to be taken into the context of "most people haven't learned to counter it yet". Especially in the context of a game like this where you're supposed to have to dodge and block things. I guess a lot of people are still stuck in the MMO mindset of not doing that.

Okay, recently joining this game I'm wondering - has anyone of you had ANY success with PvP? To me it just seems so random and unbalanced and FUCKHOLDSAREANNOYINGASFUCK.

Yeah, I've had success. FOTM build is End/Ego running the Personal Force Field passive with Field Surge.
Grabbing a hold isn't a bad idea at all. Also anything that disables travel powers is awesome. Teleportation is crazy abusive, even with the combat cooldown (which doesn't actually seem to trigger all of the time).
Any sets that can kite are pretty useful, too. Power Armor and Munitions can do that pretty well. Aside from that, just try to stay with other people from your team and concentrate firepower. If someone on your side seems to be a support/healer build, make sure to keep an eye on them, too.

Still keep considering playing this with you guys but depends on if people stick to it.
I'm assuming they have something similar to the CoH sidekick setup so you can play with friends?
