I switched to the Area 52 server, but if I ever decide to come back I saved the name on Uther. I'm still having trouble deciding what I want to play. I've got it down to a hunter or a mage. Here are my pros and cons:

Mage
Pros: self-sufficient (portals, water, etc), I love tailoring and enchanting profession, love to pvp as a mage
Cons: having trouble pveing, harder to play than hunter (but I have played a hunter longer)

Hunter
Pros: good at pve and pvp, like having a pet, much easier than mage
Cons: gets boring easily, can't decide on a profession I'd like (I love professions btw), not as much inventory space because of arrows and pet food, not really a con but I've heard hunters have a hard time in arenas and I plan on doing some arenas

So what do you think I should choose based on this list? Or even depending on how well you know me and know what I'd be better off playing? Thanks guys and good luck on Uther!

I think you'll get more mileage out of a Mage than a Hunter. Or a Warlock, since I know you were also talking about that for a bit.

I really have no idea which I would say for you Em. The reason Hunters are a bit gimp in arena is due to the fact that melee is retardedly powerful right now, which is making every clothy suck currently. They keep making melee stronger too, because its more entertaining to watch a rogue and warrior circling each other trading blows than a mage and a warlock simply standing there counting down to the next fireball. So really, mages, hunters, locks, shaman, and pallies are all very gimp if you look at arenas currently. This is mainly a result of season 3 bringing around armor penetration on melee weapons.

Should get fixed in Wrath as a temporary, but it WILL inevitably lean back that way after a while, as their abilities scale better with gear than the above (aside from shaman and pally, that's class issues that are being fixed). What I mean by that is that ability wise, they gain more from upgrading gear than the clothy does. Its hard to explain, but it comes down to numbers and the budgeting of it, and exactly how they use their stats (str and agi count for attack power in addition to ap for most melee classes, nothing else counts as spell power for casters.)

I'd say if you are looking to a class that has an EASIER time in arena (I'm looking towards 80 with Wrath for you) then I wouldn't make a choice that way, as it comes down to knowledge of your class and knowledge of the arena layouts; and pillars and when to hump them. If you are looking for a class that you would probably enjoy more, I guess I'd say mage. If you leaned to BGs, I'd say a hunter.

Another reason is that in arenas, a pet is basically there to just antagonize the healer while you fight the other person with your partner, so that their healer has trouble getting heals off through spell pushback. Even if your pet is really good, that's what you end up having to do, or that big warrior gets a heal and two shots your pet. And for a Hunter especially, without the pet, you are just a guy standing in melee range shooting some arrows.

Yeah, they are doing rolling restarts, but they caught me in the middle of doing dailies with it about 15 minutes earlier than announced, with no announcement being made in game. So that shorts me about 200g.

Okay okay, I decided to play a pally and I'm really enjoying it. It's not mind numbingly boring as a hunter and I don't die every fight like a mage. Plus healing is really fun! I don't think I'd like to tank as a pally though, it seems like it would be tough since they don't get anyway to pull. Check the sig below!

just to let you know, the 3x experience thing only happens if you are leveling with your referal person and at the same levels. So if Em hasn't been on, then you won't have gained anything, etc.

On the topic of paladin, I love it too. Mine is almost 50. However, as a healer they aren't the greatest. I like the tanking, as I have a 70 priest for healing. Now I get to be up front bashing the mobs and taking little to no damage.

Yeah, aoe grinding as a pally is fairly fun. Been doing it lately on mine.

Playing through a second trial, I'll most likely have a few more before I get the money to buy the real thing in a month or so. Been through an Orc Warrior, a Tauren Warrior, an Undead Rogue (gay =/), a Human Paladin, and a Dwarf Paladin. I enjoy the last one a lot more than the rest, and I think I'll choose that one for my first character.

Uther can be my Horde realm, even though I don't care for Horde, so I can play with you guys.
