adding genki sudo to the list of required viewings. here's a highlight reel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlW0_r_japA&feature=fvw
here's a clip from his wiki page. Quote:Prior to his retirement on New Year's Eve Sudo fought for K-1 HERO's, the mixed martial arts branch of the most popular Japanese combat sports circuit. Sudo is well known for his particularly flashy choreographed ring entrances that often include costumed dancers. One entrance featured Sudo doing the robot and operating levers that released a column of smoke from the top of his head while wearing a Kentucky Fried Chicken bucket as a hat and a white plastic mask, in an homage to the musician Buckethead.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genki_Sudo he has wins over important names like Nate "the Great" Marquardt (this was in one of the Pancrase tournaments, and since then Nate went on to become one of the Kings of Pancrase, and is now in the Top 5 of the middleweight division in UFC), Mike Brown who is now the current lightweight champion of WEC and took the title from Urijah Faber (who he later defeated again in a title defense) and is currently on a 10-fight win streak, and one of the Gracie clan.
I had no idea Kimbo was competing on Ultimate Fighter this year. He fought Roy Nelson the other day, Roy Nelson is fat as fuck.

Wow. Thanks for ruining the result you ass.
Can't believe Kimbo lost, when he was unveiled at the beginning everyone seemed really in awe of him. But saying that members of the other team who were skilled in wrestling all wanted to take him on, cause they didn't rate his ground skills. I might as well watch the video now I know the result.

I kinda of expected people to watch the video first. It's only 1.2 rounds long anyway.

I've been watching The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweight on tv, and the Kimbo fight is tomorrow. That's what I meant by ruining the result.

Yeah, Kimbo is (was?) a big name in the underground circuit, such as it was. Even semi-professional bouts are in a whole different league. 99% of his hype has to do with the fact that he has "the look" of a fighter, which sadly is still very important to many people. Hopefully, this heaping dose of reality jars a few thousand spectators awake.

I don't care what anyone says, Kimbo should have won that fight. Those shots he landed stunned him, and if he didn't try to throw that knee, we'd probably be talking about how awesome Kimbo's KO was. EDIT: Roy Nelson didn't even display better punching power or a vastly superior ground game. He literally just threw his fat around. A loss is still a loss, but it's not like Kimbo got his ass handed to him.

As soon as he threw that knee I knew he had fucked up. It was a pretty stupid move, it was obvious he was trying something new and it backfired big time.
Those punches sucked ass. But honestly, the ref couldn't just let Kimbo ('s lazy ass) just sit there and get hit in the head for the remaining 3 minutes. But it's time we stop making excuses for Kimbo. He's not a good MMA fighter. He's still a Youtube king though. Kimbo's not lazy or even bad, he just lacks conditioning. He couldn't get up because all of his energy was gone by the end of the fight. Grappling is the most energy-intensive way to fight, period. In the clench, against the cage, on the ground, it's a visually unimpressive way to burn epic amounts of stamina in seconds. He's like six years behind the curve now, all of the top names in the UFC have become cardio monsters.

More excuses.
He's a fucking bum. Quote: "for a quarter million a year growing weed, i'd fucking be gay. with dick on the side." - Laura, on mairjuana

I never said he was good, just that he's not bad. If he had the stamina to go three rounds then he'd be a mid-level gate keeper.

Roy Nelson is a worthless tub of lard that literally sat on Kimbo Slice to win the fight. Kimbo did everything right. Everyone knew going in that his ground game needed work, but he showed pretty good takedown defense in the early going. Roy couldnt stand up with him so he took him down and just laid on him. Even Dana White said his ground punches looked like a 6yr old beating play fighting with her dad. If Kimbo wasnt outweighed by 30+ pounds he would have won the fight.

Roy is a good fighter, that's all. He knew what he needed to do to beat Kimbo and he did it, Kimbo only relied on his muscle and didn't try to change up his game and that's why he lost.

I disagree, I actually thought he lost because he did try to change his game. That knee while Roy was leaning into him with all his weight was stupid, I'm a complete n00b to MMA and even I knew that was a complete fuckup. He got taken down and then it was game over, as it usually is because his ground game absolutely blows. Which is a shame because Roy was a little shook up when he fell into Kimbo, and if Kimbo had been able to stay off the ground and trade blows with him it would have been a different story. Either Kimbo massively improves his ground game, takedown defense, or gives it up. Quote: "for a quarter million a year growing weed, i'd fucking be gay. with dick on the side." - Laura, on mairjuana
edit: responding to josh
That kind of fighting isn't very good, though. Being able to set the pace is one part of being a good fighter, but sitting on top of the opponent without causing damage damage is the mark of an inferior fighter. Kimbo could have sat there for the rest of the round. This is how fighting organizations keep themselves relevant, by letting big names earn (or fail) on their own merit, and that was an amateurish fight all around. Years back, I used to watch champions hold down their opponent in title fights for five consecutive rounds, their egos would inflate, and eventually a really good fighter shows up and tears them apart. Sean Sherk comes to mind.
