In London Town
#1
So this is mostly directed at anybody living/working/etc. near London, or anybody from elsewhere who's visited there for vacation or otherwise. I'm spending my spring semester abroad at Queen Mary University of London, and I'm just looking for any kind of info anybody would be willing to throw me. Never really been to any other countries (aside from Canada and a resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic) so I'm curious as to what I should expect. So far all I know is that it's expensive, bangers and mash is delicious, and if I want scotch, I should ask for whiskey. Anything else good to know?

London is cool. I spent a couple days there once. Get out and see the sights I'd say - get all your touristy shit checked off to say you did it and then start asking locals where they like to go for stuff. Would probably be a good idea to learn the public transit system as well.

Yeah, the school said there's some sort of student discount deal for monthly public transit passes, so I'll have to see if that's worth it. I'm sure all the touristy things to do will be done easily, since this is supposedly a big school for studying abroad to and there'll probably be people from all over the place in my flat that wanna check out the touristy crap as well.

Whatever you do, don't tell a girl she has nice pants. Pants in England means panties. It's a lot easier to travel because theirs so many buses so you should be alright. Just bring a lot of money coz shit's expensive.

Some people may talk a little fast with the British accent and you might not catch everything, but don't beat yourself up about it.

Weathers pretty shit over here too. Bring umbrellas and a decent coat.

Anywhere in general, you want to brush up on social customs and slang.

Too right, you bleedin' plonker!

...I'm sorry. I just love the word 'plonker' and wish it were accepted vernacular in North America.

I say we start a movement. Let's bring foreign slang into North America. It will sweep the continent. MUWAHAHAH

Oh and uh, the London dungeon's pretty cool. Better than Madame Tussaud's (never been there, but come on it's just wax statues of some people you probably recognise, you celebrity-worshipping fag).

I'd rather use "plonk" as an alternative to the good ol' F word. It just seems like it would do well as a general-purpose word. Right, plonkin' plonks? Plonk.

Also, Madame Tussaud's is eh. The Hulk was pretty cool, but now it's like the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrus and all those jerks. As far as I know, at least. I've only gone once, about 5 or 6 years ago.

Well fuck me, some bleeding yank is heading over here to study, eh?

Well, lets begin.

Tussards is major ballocks, avoid it at all costs really.
The dungeon is cool, never been despite having lived in London me whole life.
Visit the London Eye, offers a great view of the city from the top.
Some good night clubs around the West End, so pop in for a visit at those.
London Zoo is pretty cool, although bland.

And yeah, transport is a god send around the area, your sure to get anything from anywhere. A tube would be the metro line for you lot. Busses are standard. The student discount they told you about is for whats known as an Oyster card, electronic payment method.

A good place to check out for general information on getting around London is http://www.tfl.gov.uk provided you know where the hell ya going, it'll give you solid info on how to get there.

Now, you bleeding wankers I better ship up and ship off. Don't forget to bring plenty of ya bee's and honey, avoid the plod at all costs, stay away from the hoolies, and whatever ya do, keeping ya blinkers open and have a bloody good time!
