I'm part of the camp that thinks we paid sixty bucks for a beta the first go-round, and now Valve expects us to pay full-price again for the real game.

To be honest, if you just played the game like it was, then yes it was probably a beta. If you however jumped into the community, you could get some serious fun out of it with various campaigns and shit.

Some people do jump into the community and simply get unlikely. As with everything that has creatable content, for every map/campaign/whatever that's decent there are at least 15 that suck balls. Not just any balls, either. Massive hairy, stank balls. You know that kind I'm talking about.
While people can get a lot out of it, they're just as likely (or more likely, depending on how many friends they have to help them filter for anything decent) to get nothing but absolutely shit until they get fed up and just quit.

Either way, I'm going to miss the original cast of characters. I wish they'd somehow kept using them as staples.

Zoey mainly, that's everyone's fav. But we all love watching Louis get nailed repeatedly by every zombie (everyone goes for that dude).

PILLS HERE.
PILLS.
PILLS HERE.
P-P-P-PILLS.
I'm fine with new characters but I want closure. I hope they include writings on the wall about two men, a girl and a grumpy granddad running around somewhere.

The grumpy grandad was my favourite.

Closure on what? There's no story. Nothing to close.

It's still a story of four survivors having to live through the apocalypse and seeing as this is an entire new location (judging from the weather/time of day etc.) I'd like to hear if they made it through their area and fought it down or they just died.

Unlikely. First game was set in... I can't remember. PA? Somewhere in northern US, anyway. It's very easy to figure out where it is based on all the landmarks. I just forgot.
Second game's set in the south. I sincerely doubt communications in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape could reach that far. Adding 'closure' through the second game would seem inappropriate.
And... there's no community for me to 'jump into,' except playing online. I've got it for 360; can't really get the cool Super Mario 64 map or whatever. And I would hardly consider user-created content 'part of the game.'

Apparently preloading doesn't mean much!
But hey, its out. I'll play it in a few hours.
When in doubt: It was sarcasm.

I can't play because I'm broke and I really shouldn't get this game till after Dec 10.
Because otherwise I'll fail all my exams.
