The Fighting Thread
Jayd Wrote:I have no trouble conceding that most boxers are better technical strikers than most MMA fighters, but to say that boxers are inherently stronger muscle-wise is to be misinformed, which is the point I was referring to.

Actually I feel like boxers do have an advantage in "punching power," which is completely irrelevent to strength muscle-wise. In terms of overall strength, core strength, mass, arm strength, it's hard to determine a stronger individual without actual comparison. However, "punching power" is a complete different formula. It's not something you can actually train by lifting weights as much as it is something that is more focused on technique improvement. So I don't think it's wrong of the boxers to assume that they have more punching power since they are more technical. But it's hard to determine a superiority between MMA and Boxing. It's like that cliche, there's no better discipline there's only the better fighter. MMA has technical non-knockout artists, and Boxing has those guys too.

Alura Wrote:With that said, what do you guys think on Mir vs Cro Cop and Bader vs Nogeira? I'm a huge Bader fan so I'm going for him, but I'm torn on the main event

I'm going with Nog and Mir.

You know Bader is undefeated, right? I know Nogeira is good but I think you're vastly underestimating Bader.

How's Crocop doing recently? I still haven't watched 115, he put on a show there but the proof is in the performance. I'm leaning to Mir due to size advantage, Mir walks around at 280 and Mirko is under 240.

He's doing okay. He's beat a bunch of people who I really don't consider that big of a challenge. The last person I'd say he beat that had name value was Mostapha Al-turk, and that was over a year ago.

He beat Pat Berry by decision at UFC 115.

Ultimately I would go with Mir, but I'm a little bias because I dig Mir.

I hope Crocop kicks Mir's head OFF.

Nog has a great boxing pedigree and world-class jiu-jitsu. I see no other way Bader can win unless it's by taking Nog down and defending all the submission attempts and grind out a victory. Nog's list of wins consists people like Dan Henderson, Sakuraba and Alistair Overeem, while Bader's most big-name win is against Keith Jardine who was known for inconsistency. So yeah, technically and on paper, Nog has all the advantage in the world.

Mir vs Cro Cop. Honestly, Cro Cop lost it. His past couple fights have been lackluster, and his most recent win was a submission win which saw him show a more versatile side of him, but it shows Cro Cop is no longer the right leg hospital, left leg cemetary knockout legend anymore. I don't know, I guess he's still dangerous, but Mir has great striking. Not only did Mir knockout Cheick Congo (who holds a win against Mirko) he also knocked out Big Nog, first and only person to achieve such a feat. I'm giving Mir all the advantage in this one.

Does honesty earn respect or inspire revenge? Is it smarter to attack the strong or annihilate the weak?

I'm a Brit so I was rooting for Hardy, but damn that was a mean hook that floored him. I sat there thinking 'how dare those Americans come to our land and beat up our fighters?!" I'm happy at least Bisping won though. I thought he was done for in the first round after a right hook from Akiyama. Still not good enough to hang with the elites of the middleweight division IMHO though.

lesnar vs velasquez happening this saturday. the overcard has a number of fights that are important for various divisions, but the main event is really the only thing i care about.

cain seems to have the advantage on paper. his collegiate wrestling record wasn't as good as brock's, but it's much more recent... brock's collegiate career is too old to be relevant. cain also has more mma pro matches, more impressive wins, and much better striking.

i'm calling it for lesnar, though. i don't know why.

I've got a gut feeling Lesnar will take him. Like you, I can't explain it.

Cain did not disappoint me. Knew he was gonna do it. Looks like Cain is Junior Dos Santos's next prey...
I was impressed with Cain though, he actually took Lesnar down :S.
Also, Jake Shields resumed his sitting down on opponents strategy in the UFC. Sucks shit, but whatever.
Diego Sanchez vs Paolo Thiago, man I would like to see that fight again without Thiago gassing.
