Dante's Abyss 2011

Jonathan Meer Wrote:I resent that. I (and others) have presented arguments. We have not been dogmatic.

Strong opinions presented through argumentation =/= hammering down throats

I probably won't be participating if death isn't a significant part of the upcoming DA. I won't be able to take it seriously.

I'm probably being unfair, yes. I also didn't mean to imply that you're being dogmatic, because that would further imply that I don't agree.

The point I was trying to make is that if you have something new to bring to the discussion that pertains to the saga, then feel free to bring it up. Much of this discussion has been devoted to the system of death itself, which this saga certainly won't and cannot change. It deserves to be talked about, but not here. Someone coming late to this thread might miss something important because a lot of what's been said isn't relevant to the saga.

My bad, I figured that since death and the nature of death in regards to the competition's operating system is a very, very important aspect of a competitive saga then a discussion on death, the pros and cons of death, and whether or not people could actually die in the saga (and if that was something that members wanted, which is directly correlated to the discussion on whether or not death is a good thing, which is a discussion that has been featured o this page) would be very pertinent to creating the saga. Since the thread is about the style and system of a future Dante's Abyss, I thought member opinions on probably the most important risk/reward of the saga would be good.

But I understand that beating a dead horse is beating a dead horse, and maybe the discussion will continue when the time comes.

I voted for option one because I liked Reb's DA's. I liked DA:C best, though.

To me, the thread is less about criticizing/defending Avatar and more about wondering how stoned Jack was when he saw the movie/made the thread.

I might as well mention this now.

DA:C or a similar idea probably can't happen because we lack the member base. There are also other more personal problems that arise from it that I'd rather not deal with at this point in time.

So...grids.

I'm for 'em, along with the whole 06-08 concept package with a more laid out scoring system. I liked DA09's point system, as grading in the grid DAs seemed to be more subjective (I think that's the word I'm looking for).

I also really enjoyed the concept of injuries, and I hope they play some role in whichever DA system wins the metaphorical day (or, in Chubbs time, a month if you're lucky). While it sucked ass to go into a fight injured, I feel they were awesome to work with whilst wandering the abyss (I had a splendid time when Android 17 got short-circuited and spent the rest of DA a babbling, hallucinating mess).

Ander's DA was the most enjoyable one I've had since it began in 2004 (or re-began). He gave a lot of attention to the members, which is a brilliant idea. It makes people feel like their characters actually matter to the storyline, whether they're taken out in the first round (like I was) or not.

I voted for "my" version, but I didn't actually see or participate in Ander's.

For reference, Ander's version is in the legends category.

Looks like the "new" version is going to win out anyway, though.

How does the 'New' Version actual win, when only four actually voted for that one?

I don't really see what the point is of giving the option to vote on what you'd like to see, if it's not really going to happen that way.

In Reb's DA there was more to things then whats been mentioned. There was the OOC aspect that played a big part in it, as well as the class of weapons. Think there were 4 classes. Joke, OK, Good and Super good, as well as four class of injuries; Story, Minor, Major, and Terminal(You had so long to live or needed a medkit to turn it to a major.

The GPS was alright, but how great it was was undermined because of the OOC talk that went on.

And that was just part of the OOC thing. There was the infamous Backstabbing option as well. I know I was known for it, because I took out one person in 06, and myself and Tapion did some wicked damage in 07. As a matter of a fact it made the top 10 strategies. Back stab the little guys and get their good equipment. In 08, Tapion actually tried to do this to me, but he failed and backfired.

In 08 there was the Easter Egg concept, Call it something like a coliseum bit. Kaden and 18 used Fusion and crap the first two times (I got hurt from it) and lets just say I remember everyone else getting scared to go to anymore Easter eggs... of course I died soon after and stopped following lol

Traveling in groups had its benefits and problems as well. Traveling with two was alright as long as you two benefited from each other. More then two, usually meant the weakest few of the groups were getting some serious injuries or death, because chances are some of the partners outshone the others.

Ander's was a revision of the old style with a new concept. His had a point system that reset after each round. In this one you had so long to RP then a fight round happened and each person had so long to write so many posts. Ander would finish it and select the winner. Each time you lost you had a better chance of being eliminated.

Personally, I'm a fighting fiend and a DA Junkie. However, I liked the break from having to write the fights and if I wanted something special to happen I was able to ask either of the two in either of them.

I was more able to flesh Retane out in Rebs Dante's abyss then in Ander's but at the same time I was still able to do a little in Anders as well. But the whole combat systems for both were different. Anders was a forced one on one, and Reb's could have more then one.

Lets not mention that some people were like, "OK lets avoid any quadrant that houses Kaden whoever Rejin is, and any other 'super power' in Ander's

That was more or less my point.

In any case, I'm sorry if that was misleading. We're still taking member opinion very seriously.
