Because of the reasons to join part right?

Quote:WHY YOU SHOULD CONVERT TO FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTERISM

-Flimsy moral standards.
-Every friday is a religious holiday. If your work/school objects to that, demand your religious beliefs are respected and threaten to call the ACLU.
-Our heaven is WAY better. We've got a Stripper Factory AND a Beer Volcano.

Actually, it's neither. FSM does not pay any form of recognition to our version of the spaghetti noodle, for He was the one who created it and He would have created it for us to bounty on it and use it as a resource.

There's a difference between dressing up as a pirate and actually being a pirate. =\

I've seen it. It's all one big mockery of Christianity. I'm actually quite offended by it, but I'm not going to raise a stink. They have their right of free speech, after all.

Quote:I don't have a problem with religion. What I have a problem with is religion posing as science. Teach creationism in school, fine, but DON'T teach it in a science classroom. Science = the study of repeatable, observable, natural phenomena. Accepting a supernatural explanation is a cop-out. It's faith, NOT science.

Ah, I disagree on that point. People continuously confuse the theory of Intelligent Design, and the Creationist standpoint.

Clarification: The theory of Intelligent Design is an actual scientific theory that is actually accepted by more scientists than most citizens realize. They believe that a Higher Intelligence created the world in entirety, though there are a few cases in which they believe the world was created, and Evolution provided the animals and such.

The belief of Creationism describes the general view that practising Christians and Jews believe (along with, I think, Muslims). They believe that God created the earth just as he described in Genesis.

So, as you can see, Creationism is the faith part, while the theory of Intelligent Design is the literal science. Science is, after all, examining the facts and determining the most likely outcome from these.

With that said, I don't think Intelligent Design alone should be taught, just as Evolution alone should not be taught. Students should be presented each theory without bias, and then should be left to draw their own conclusions. Outdated and disproven data should not still be placed in new textbooks for Evolution.

I think the point of the letter was that, since people are allowed to get offended when people disbelieve the idea of an omnipotent, omniscient benevolent being that lives in the clouds, they should be allowed to get offended when people disbelieve the idea of a flying spaghetti monster. It is, of course, a parody. But it doesn't take a direct approach, as most atheists do when trying to disprove the existence of a Christian God. Instead of trying to disprove the Christian God, it instead tries to prove a different God and gauges the results. So in this case, the controversy doesn't come from the idea of there not being a God, it comes from trying to make Christians believe there could be different God. It's a little smarter than your average skeptic joke.

But I agree with Krillin - I don't want to cause a fuss over my views, or it'll be like that marines topic where my user rating plummeted overnight for being frank Tongue
