Grand Theft Auto IV Spoilers
#1
(As if there wasn't enough)

This is the first X360 game I've ever pre-ordered. The trailers are... damn cool. I was hoping for a new area, but I loved Liberty City, so I'm not disappointed.

The idea of using a Russian(am I wrong?) immigrant was pretty cool, because that's pretty close to home. I'm first-generation Canadian so I can relate somewhat to immigrants, through the experiences my parents/uncles/aunts/etc had.

Apparently hand-to-hand is going to be emphasized. I don't know if I like that for this kind of game, but I've pretty much ignored any news/info about the game (aside from trailers), so I have no idea what they're planning.

Excited? Think it will suck?

I haven't seen anything on it, I just knew they were making it. I think it'll be hard to top SA, but I will probably end up buying this anyway.

They got rid of the desert and rural (country hick place) areas in this game. The map will be about the same size as the one in SA, just all city. This REALLY pissed me off, but I'll get over it. Maybe.

The funnest part of SA was running around barefoot, bald, and in jean overalls through the countryside. Or just taking the scenic rout from insignificant place to insignificant place. Or riding a dune buggie through the mountains. Or riding freight trucks off the edge on a mountain. Etc. I'm disappointed that they will sacrifice that for w/e they plan to put in it's place.

They claim there will be no loading after the first initial loading.

I'm curious to see how well their engine works, I think they've only used it for their table tennis game (did anyone play that? didn't think so) and certainly not in something with so much collision.

It seems like it has a very good chance to be a huge improvement over previous GTA installments.

Honestly, I think getting the loading to work in Katamari would have been harder.

Buildings don't move in GTA. They do in Katamari. Everything moves in Katamari.

Textures take up most of the loading in everything, and it's supposed to have uber hi-res textures versus the low-res solid colors of Katamari.

I suppose what they really mean is the game won't stop to load, there is no way for it to load everything but it should be able to pretty easily load as you go. As long as it doesn't load like some previous Sonic games (cough) we should be good.

Really? All of that dead space got super boring for me after a while.

When I heard that every section of the game would be 'inhabited', so to speak, I thought that was a plus. *Shrug*

I am curious, too, to see how the engine works. Especially if it's the same as a table tennis engine. Seems... rather bizarre to me... but it's possible the table tennis thing was just an elaborate beta test for the engine.

No loading time at all? Wow...that's just really amazing if it's true.

I saw some screen shots. Didn't impress me. I bought all three of the GTA series on the PS2, and didn't complete any of them. The only thing that appeals to me about the games is the sandbox gameplay, just being able to drive around the different locations.

Same here Saz, the only one I've ever completed is Vice City...and I can't remember a damn thing about the game lol. I just like driving around and listening to the radio...than running people over. San Andreas is pretty good for gameplay, I liked getting a gang together and grabbing a big truck than rolling around lookin hard.

They see me rollin...

My only concern (now, after playing Vice City and realizing nothing but city is FINE), is that they are trying to modernize the franchise too much. Even the little things like having A Flock of Seagulls in the Vice City ad, or Welcome to The Jungle for SA, and even that opera woman for GTA III... that stuff added to the sense of immersion. Classics; something we all recognized. This time aroundwe have some European rapping in the background? FAIL. They are trying new stuff, and they want you to know it.

And then the whole thing with emails, which actually sounds cool, and the new system of evading police/getting into cars (sounds like a whole lot of work). It's not neccessarily a bad thing or a down side, but it has me worried. I know the game will be amazing no matter what, I just don't want to wait for another 2-3 years for them to try it again if they find out this new stuff hindered the gameplay.

That said, I'm most excited about this game for 08. I'm going to spend a shitload of money on a PS3 in time to pre-order this, but it's gonna happen.

Obviously MGS4, like most of the world. It's probably a tie between the two for me, actually. And Spore.

08 is going to rawk.

No. I don't have a PS3 and one game won't convince me to buy a $500 machine.

Although I'm very disappointed I'm going to miss out on it. At least for a while. Besides, even if I had a PS3, MGS4 would only be #2, making GTAIV #3.

My most anticipated game of '08 is Fallout 3. Actually, Fallout 3 is probably my most anticipated game... ever. Even though it's not a Black Isle game anymore. =(

To me, the thread is less about criticizing/defending Avatar and more about wondering how stoned Jack was when he saw the movie/made the thread.

Fucking A! Sony needs to step their game up, I'm tempted to invest in a laptop or freaking 360 or maybe both. Don't know yet. But the game is sounding pretty good but I'll hold off until the ps3 comes out with more games and lowers it's got dang price.
