Might be 2 n00b questions...but.

1.) Is it a private server, like WoW's?

2.) Do you need a monthly payment? (To play on the server?)

private server, ya. it's free.

you sign up on the site under "register", and you just need to download the client. They have a nice getting started section on there too.

The installer works. We downloaded it from there. Just try again. For some reason, the L2 installer corrupts really easily.
