You guys also have no context for what "20 points" is. If you only get, say, 100 points over a term, then yeah that's gay. If you 3000 then whatever. Doesn't mean shit.

Its 20 points for an assignment.

So lets say an essay paper is worth 100 points. You get a 60 on it but with that you could bring it up to an 80. Thats two fucking grades you didn't earn.

A paper could also be worth 600 points, in which case its an extra 5%. Maybe you forgot to run spell-check, or used a font-type that wasn't approved. Like I said: we have no context.

I didn't mean for my argument to go towards that as much as I wanted it to go for extra credit in general. Teachers do give it away like candy and it sucks ass. It should be used to help bump kids from an 89 to a 90, or a 79 to an 80. It should be used so a kid who has a 65 can get a 70, which, more cases then not is what it is being used for.

I completely agree. I had a class a few years back where a classmate of mine did 10% of the assignments, and still got an A because they just did a bunch of extra credit.
