Irregardless is simply incorrect by all accounts. Oh and Waff, I'm curious as to how you got that figured out.

"Irregardless" has come out through usage to be informal. Some may not like it because it has both "ir-" and "-less," but I like it.

...Irregardless is still wrong.
You liking it means nothing. XD "I wasted time and now time doth waste me."

So you proved that dictionaries recognized it existed despite it not actually being a word?
Wow, dude. We already knew that. lmao "I wasted time and now time doth waste me."

Precisely. Even Wikipedia lists it as "non-standard".
In other words, you're perfectly free to say it all you want, but it is incorrect grammar, as bad as making a double negative.

Way to read the whole article, Krillin and Bra.

I DID read the entire article, and I did not read anything that I did not already know. Irregardless is an incorrect, non-standard word. I don't care if a bunch of people are using incorrect grammar, and through this widespread ignorance, it becomes a standard word.
I'm not exactly one to follow something incorrect just because everyone else is. If that's you, cool. But I like sticking to what's actually right.

Whilst we're on the topic of grammatically incorrect words/phrases becoming commonly used due to widespread ignorance, how about FOR FREE! ?. The 'for' is redundant. People still do it.
Just thought I'd mention that since everybody forgets that one. =( HBD Jesus, even though your existence as told by teh biblez (hah, defeated thy loophole, Burter) is debatable and this is almost certainly not yo birthday. >_> ![]() Bra Wrote:People are dumb, essentially.

Quote:Originally posted by Hell Fighter 17 Of course modern dictionary publications will list it. Usualy, the grammatically-ignorant folk use it, and there are a multitude of ignorant folk in the USA. Not saying you're ignorant, HF, just saying the general people that use the word. And edited professional prose simply shows that some people are willing to let their language become degraded. A sad, but true fact. 'Course, it's probably mostly the informal "professional prose" that contains this, but meh. Besides, what exactly does it mean by "professional prose"? Are we talking novels? Then the author could simply be writing stylistically, or it could be contained in dialogue. Your quote proved nothing. In fact, I read that very segment, and thought, "Yeah, this is probably what HF is talking about, and yeah, he'll probably quote it on me after I reassert my opinion. But oh well."

I'm in shock. Like, honestly. I never thought I'd see you admit you were wrong. I mean, I know conceding a point and being "wrong" are two different things, but still. Wow.
