Powerups
#1
Quote:Originally posted by Raditzu
Powerup Ranks are listed in letters. "Rank S" is the highest rank. "Rank A" is the second highest, "Rank B" the next highest and so on and so forth. In most cases, the first rank is C or B with a couple of exceptions.

With these listings, a "/" represents different ranks. The numbers listed are multipliers in all cases. A multiplier that's less than one, obviously, represents a penalty for that Rank of that powerup.

Techniques listed are given the Rank that they begin taking effect in.

Reptilians

Dragon Form

This form for Reptilians is built around size and power. The warrior will increase in height and muscle mass, giving them a huge strength advantage. However, due to the extreme size of the reptile, the fighter will experience loss of speed and agility. After mastering the technique and putting more power into it, Reptilians may lose control and go berserk.

Str: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Tch/Agi: .15 / .30 / .45 / .60
Berserk: Ranks A, S

Serpent Form

Reptilians will become smaller and thinner in this form, giving them more agility and the ability to move easier in the wind and water. Their scales will grow and give them a more smoother look. The downside to increased speed is less time to think out the actions in a fight and thus, look that advantage.

Agi: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Con/Ins: .15 / .30 / .45 / .60

Tortoise Form

When a Reptilian is unable to block attacks, they may rely on the defensive form if they master it. The warrior's scales grow out to form a thick outer shell and give them a great defensive advantage over their oppenents. However, they won't be able to strike as hard, or as fast, due to the size of their armor.

Con: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Str/Will: .15 / .30 / .45 / .60

---------------

Bright Ki is a technique made specially for powerups. Its the opposite of Dark Ki and means that a character is easier to sense.

Berserk is a "status effect" if you will that means that a character has not learned to control a powerup and will attack friend or foe with reckless abandon.

---------------

Once a player has bought a powerup, it will be added to a small drop down menu on their roster. From this menu they can select one, of any of the powerups they've learned, power-up ability to be "active." The resulting stats from the active powerup (including stat bonuses/penalties and PL modification) will appear in brackets next to their base stats.

There are the powerups for all the different races. Q&A goes here.

I believe you buy your powerups with EXP.

No, just an XP count.

Keeping in mind you have to use your XP for other stuff, too, like techniques and raising your stats, so you may choose to focus on those and not upgrading power-ups

The system is meant to be completely focussed on customization. As you can see, the power-ups are meant only to boost up a stat (and in most cases, boost DOWN a stat), so it's not a huge advantage like we have currently (where you boost every stat by like 20)

Here's how I explained this to Violet.

Quote:Reijin: SSJ
Physicals: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25
Mentals: .25 / .5 / .75 / 1
Berserk: Ranks B and C
Bright Ki: Rank S
XP: 40 / 40 / 60 / 70
Reijin: increases your physicals, lowers your mentals. You are Beserk and insane for Rank B and C
Reijin: you can control it at Rank A finally with x20 phys, but x0.75 mentals
Reijin: at Rank S you finally achieve normal mentals again with planning, and x25 phys, but you are a glowing nova for th eworld to see
Reijin: none of this "strictly beneficial no downside" crap
Reijin: more strategy to fights
Violet: thus, the freedom, but also control, to where people don't god mod by being too powerful without being detected all around
Reijin: also
Reijin: xp
Reijin: do you want to increase your stats?
Reijin: do you want new abilities?
Reijin: do you want new powerups to enhance your stats?
Reijin: how are you spending them?
Reijin: you go blow them on SSJ ranks and get the highest rank on it after like 210 xp for x25 phys
Reijin: but if you are base 1 per point
Reijin: 3 phys/ 3 mental
Reijin: you are going to be considered 25/25/25/1/1/1 for the fight
Reijin: someone else who spend those same 210
Reijin: on their phys stats alone
Reijin: would be like 65/65/65/1/1/1 or something
Violet: oh snap, so they would actually succeed in that fight then/
Violet: even if the other guy has ssj
Reijin: but later when you have good points
Reijin: getting the powerup means multipliers which add to more than adding more single points
Violet: so its more relying on your actual points than powerups
Reijin: or even just normal abilities
Reijin: to enhance your styles
Reijin: not necessarily
Reijin: imagine you have 50/50/50/50/50/50 for stats
Reijin: spend that 210 on phys
Reijin: not sure how to add that, but you see a general number in your head
Reijin: now take that same 50 each, times them by 25
Violet: 260?
Reijin: no
Violet: oh
Reijin: three phys stats
Violet: >.>
Violet: ooh
Reijin: so more like... 120/120/120/50/50/50
Violet: oh, divide it up equally among the three. yeah. 70 to each phys
Reijin: but if you times them by 25 for the same cost, then you are..
Reijin: (trying to do in head)
Reijin: something like 300/300/300/50/50/50
Reijin: so while powered up, you win there
Violet: jesus

Will moves like Dark Ki(I don't know if you're keeping it or w/e) be able to somewhat nullify the effects of Bright Ki?

The bright ki thing, would it just be like it is now? Or like when Goku goes SSJ3 on earth?

Edit: There any specific reason why UT for changelings is 'zerk for all of it?

Dark Ki will probably be limited to only Androids.

Dark Ki and Bright Ki will cancel each other out unless otherwise stated.

Bright Ki would be like Goku going SSJ3 on Earth. Your ki becomes ridiculously easy to spot, making you more of a potential target.

UT was given berserk because of how powerful a transformation it is. Its overall strength is far beyond any of the other changeling powerups.

Personal Opinion, but I don't want to see "Dark Ki" so rampant, and I doubt it will be so. Currently everyone wants to be the invisible fused teleporting unlimited power beast of Eightzu, and in my opinion, that shit should never have happened as far as straight out unbeatability.

I believe Bright Ki overpowers Dark Ki honestly, because I find it absolutely ridiculous if it doesn't.

With the exceptions of mentals(idk?) will each physical stat have the same relative impact on ki?

But I assume there will be benefits if you build up your Dark Ki? I mean, not everybody wants to be a powerhouse which is open to everything and all to attack. Some perfer the more discrete approach.

As far as I understood it, bright ki trumps all. If you don't want to be detected, don't transform.

And there's no answer for questions regarding ki, as there's no formula in place yet.

All stats will impact your overall strength rating.

Just had an idea as I was walking today...

What if there was something that you could buy with experience that enhances an attribute of a power-up - an expensive plug-in, if you will - beyond the ordinary bounds? Like, if you were to buy a Willpower plug-in for SSJ, it might provide something like +x5 for Willpower in addition to everything else.

Allowing just one plug-in, it would give people a way to further personalize their transformations, and would make it so that a SSJ, even if he would never have as much Willpower as a Changeling in the appropriate form, would still be able to, if he "specced" for it, be able to at least compete. Similarly, if a Changeling wanted to ultra-spec in one stat for like Mind Control or whatever, he could do that.

Just a thought. Maybe crazy, maybe already been considered and discarded, but..

We actually already have a system that provides a very similar level of customization.

Its not for powerups, but it works basically the same way.

It took me the second time around to understand the format and get what Rad's first post was saying.

Overload = Holy shit.

If anyone complains about 'Generic' ever again...

Yeah, Overload is pretty intense. Looking at it now, bumping up the XP cost might be in order.
