The fun of all this is dependent on how extensively they refined the aiming system. Supposedly it's no joke this time around, pretty much on par with most FPS/Shooters.

I've heard you can take cover and shit on this game. WTF, you can't take cover in GTA. It's not a freakin tactical shooter.

They haven't announced everything, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Sandbox mode seems to be unfortunately unpopular. Unless it gives gamerscore or you can "pwn some noobs" in it people don't really want to play.

Gears was not the first game to use the Cover system. There was Killswitch before that, and I'm sure there have been several others. I am sick of Gears being acredited with the invention of the Cover system. That, and I just despise Gears as a whole.

I liked the aiming in SA. I don't want FPS-style shooting in GTA. I don't think it fits the gameplay.

It doesn't.
But the current system would make any form of multiplayer incredibly frustrating.

I never said Gears invented it. Just that it made it really really popular. I try to never actually say who invented something, because chances are you're always wrong and there was someone before who did it in an even more basic form.
I think the cover system suits more 'realistic' games. IMO, it's more immersive, though, the whole part about your health regenerating ... I suppose that depends on the game. Is that gonna be in GTA4?

Is it? I could have sworn I've seen it cut price, you know how playstation used to do platinum games, well the eqivolent of that for the Xbox 360. If you've got an urge to play it, just rent it out for a week. You could do the campaign, and have a brief taste of the multiplayer. Gears of war 2 is coming out november, that's gonna be a must buy for me. I've heard they're gonna have poison grenades in the next one. That'll be neat.

That depends on what you mean by gimmick. I wouldn't really consider it a novelty feature or anything, but it is certainly just 'something to throw in' at this point.
