Life Story: Piper Juunanagou was going nowhere in life. For the past 28 years, she had dredged through life as a spineless, self-loathing victim. Her father died when she was a young toddler, and her mother left some time after that. Her first foster mother killed herself, and her brother and best friend were taken away from her—never to see her again. After that, she was sexually abused, verbally abused, and physically abused by foster parents, schoolmates, therapists, and doctors as she tried to get through life as quickly as possible.
As a result of her upbringing, Piper developed a plethora of psychological and mental disorders that plagued her throughout her entire life. Various medications and abusive doctors and therapists served to inflame her mental wounds. Piper served as a field medic for several years to pay for her college, but she was discharged after turning down sexual advances from a commanding officer.
After being discharged, she fell into a depression so deep that she tried to take her life several times. One of her therapists finally suggested she take a vacation to a small village in the north to relax. When Piper arrived there, she immediately took note of strangeness within the inhabitants, but before she could solve the mystery, they attacked her with the intent to sacrifice her to their god.
Amidst the ritual, a comet hit the village, sending Piper back in time and condemning the villagers to serve out their damned afterlives in the past as well. Now Piper wanders this strange, new world in an attempt to find a place for herself and perhaps some answers about her own past.
Relations
Vad and Trixie – Piper met Vad and the demon who lives in his head shortly after her arrival in the past. Although initially put off by their sadism and bizarre relationship, she grew to enjoy their company (for the most part). They helped her acclimate to the past, and for that, she’ll always harbor some degree of gratitude, although she finds herself still somewhat appalled by their less admirable qualities.
Kaden – Upon first meeting, Piper’s innate power to read people told her that Kaden was more than just an attractive-looking guy with interesting eyes. He was also something Piper had rarely seen in her life—a good guy. Over the course of Friend or Foe 3, the two fought together to survive. When they emerged as survivors, they bought cell phones to stay in touch. Piper would never actually admit to it in words, but she has a strong crush on the blonde courier.
Sophia – Piper and Kaden’s ally during the latter part of Friend or Foe 3. Piper instantly respected the woman for being far more skilled when it came to healing people (after all, Sophia could heal them with her own energy). Although they didn’t become bffs, Sophia’s death at the climatic battle of Friend of Foe 3 still weighs on Piper’s heart.
Honorable Mentions – Sage, Ashe, Szar, Orion, Zena
Abilities
Mediumship – Throughout her life, Piper always felt like she could ‘read’ people a little better than others. After arriving in the past, this manifested itself in the form of episodes where Piper inadvertently taps into the memories and minds of those she touches. In the process, she learns a little of their history and mindset.
Combat Teleportation – Although she cannot do so at will, Piper has been prone to teleport amidst life-threatening situations. The harmless process of doing so temporarily turns her into white and blue particles of light.
Techniques
Ki Control – This ability first made itself manifest when Piper was a child. She used it to kill her pedophilic foster father. This technique allows Piper to generate and use raw energy (ki) as an offensive and defensive weapon. Inklings of this power have surfaced recently as well.
Telekinesis – The power to move small objects with her mind. Piper uses this less in combat and more in mundane activities (like flipping light switches, picking up bottles, etcetera)
Telepathy – The ability to speak through the mind.
Super Leaping – Piper is able to leap several stories in a single bound. On the flip side, she can also survive long falls that would kill normal people.
Custom Techniques
Empathy – An extension of Piper’s Mediumship ability. This allows Piper to feel the emotion of other’s around her. This ability is not active all the time and requires minor concentration to utilize. Furthermore, Piper can easily become overwhelmed if she tries to tap into too many people or people with overwhelming emotions (whether those emotions are positive or negative). As such, it is impractical in combat and has no direct benefit. Due to her empathic ability, Piper can pick up when people are deliberately trying to deceive her.
Travel Teleportation - An extension of her Combat Teleportation, Piper can teleport from planet to planet, as long as she's been there before.
Acrobatics - Piper's constantly improving level of fitness and agility (coupled with her ability to jump higher and survive long falls - super jumping) has reached the point where she can perform several feats that temporarily ignore gravity. Examples include running across water, running up the side of a building, and being able to easily cross a high-wire.
