Aion
#1
I'm so excited for this to come out! Although it looks a lot like every other Korean MMO I know this probably isn't true for Aion.

What class are you guys going to play?

Video of classes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8E2IFbwO3w

I think I will most likely play either a sorcerer or ranger, but I really want to try an enchanter or assassin. Knowing me I'll probably try all the classes atleast once, though.

Truer words have never been spoken. I might try it, but having no money limits my ability to play MMOs

I was pretty annoyed to see that casters get to ride the train of every single hit canceling your entire cast again.

Wait, wtf? That along with knowing flight time has limits makes me not really feel like even looing into it.

Hold it now little ones, I'm in the beta and even though it is correct a hit can cancel a cast, there is many things that you can do in order for them not to do that, the main one being the obvious tactic which is 'stay out of range', but also the fact that it's a POSSIBILITY that it can be stopped. There have been some various thoughts on how, so far it seems that every time you cast, there's a random sweet spot in your spell that needs to be hit and apparently it generates a new one everytime. It's a RNG, sure, but it isn't as bad as Ashe makes it out to be.

Also it's nescessary for flight time to have its' limits, at least if you're trying to PvP. However I'm not certain if there is a time limit in the Abyss (the PvP zone).

Screw you, Cerion! How dare you use anything other than wild speculation to form an opinion of something

I hate assholes like you who insist on being reasonable!

Also after a little research, if PvP was the flight time concern, I've just checked and according to my source, there is no flight limit inside the Abyss, so that's k.

YEAH!

I dunno, I might need to look at it later, but all the advertisement was about wings. Like, 10 frames of stuff, and half were "Aerial Combat!" and the rest was generic stuff. I'll wait and see what other people think first

Of course people are going to over-hype one aspect of the game. The did it with City of Heroes, Age of Conan, Vanguard, and I'm sure about every other MMO that's come out. Hell, Wrath of the Litch King said there would aerial fighting on dragon back and not only did it not live up to the promise, it's basically non existent. People managed to move on, though.

Age of Conan HAS mounted combat...

I was kicking ass with my giant Rhino.

EDIT: I just realized I need some sort of on topic response...

I'll be trying the assassin.

I was actually thinking of the hyped melee combat when I mentioned AoC. Yeah, it's there, and yeah it's different/cool, but half of the classes in the game don't even know it exists.

To contrast with Aion, yeah the flight might be limited, but everyone will be able to do it.

Ok, here it is plain and simple. Mounted Combat is hard to do with the way MMO's work these days. You can't make turned based Mounted Combat.

Doesn't work.

Age of Conan had it because they didn't use WoW's system of being stuck on a target as it attacked you. It was completely player driven. I had to enter the combo buttons to pull off an attack.

Mounted Combat requires the simple ability to ride by on your mount and cut someone down. If you've ever played Mount & Blade you know what I'm talking about...

When people say Mounted Combat, they want 40 people running around attacking for normal damage on mounts.

Won't happen. The system alone is difficult to pull off. From what I've seen in these video's, combat is like Chrono Trigger where your stationary.

Unless they incorporate a different combat system for mounted combat(which won't happen), it's not gonna happen how people WANT. To reiterate, it requires an open combat system..

See Mount & Blade.

Wow. You really zeroed in on that one brief, barely-on-topic, mention of mounted combat.
