I'd like to attempt a civilized discussion without PMs, the only reason that rule is there is prevent the unruly stuff. If this gets too heated we can take it to PM. I'd like to think we can be mature enough to do so.

An example stemming from recent news is the lethargic response to the victims of hurricane Katrina. This was a failure of the government, from the top all the way down to the bottom. No one did anything until after the hurrican came through and anhillated New Oreleans. Bush was still on vacation (which he has set many records for most time on vacation), and people even said the dikes that held back the water near New Oreleans would not withstand a class five hurricane. New Oreleans is below sea level, once those dikes broke, the city was under water in no time. Once relief was pouring in it was difficult to do anything because of the massive chaos.

The gay marrage issue is another close minded load of crap. It shouldn't matter who you are or what your preferences are, you should be able to marry whoever you want. If you ask, "Well then should a man be able to marry a horse?" No - that is absurd. We're talking about people here, every day people who go to work and school and live along with the rest of us. It sucks that gay people are the new minority for the US to pick on, but the open minded people in the country are trying to move things along. We don't need this "Gay people are bad/evil/sinners/no good" crap, it's just totally untrue. This often stems from some religious beliefs which are ignorant and closed minded or just flat out ignorance, and really don't have any place in today's society. If we really want a world of tollerance, it has to start with our own neighboorhoods and towns. I'm disgusted with the anti-gay rights garbage flying out of the government establishments and anywhere else it lives for that matter.

I live on the West coast. Recently the government wanted to take most of our Air National Guard and move them away from the horribly undefended West coast (which houses such cities as Portland, Seattle, L.A., San Fransisco) and move them to more "vulnerable terrorist targets" like the East coast and the South. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for defending lives, but not at the risk of leaving others open to attack. The Oregon coast has three part time police officers that patrol it. They wanted to take away our fighter jets - we have around 16 I believe, and they were going to leave us with around 4. Fortunatly our congressman and other Oregon reps fought it tooth and nail until they left it the hell alone.

Bush has had to deal with some rather devistating events over the course of his service as president. 9/11 and now hurricane Katrina, both horriffic, and his response (especially with the hurricane) has been less than pleasing. 9/11, we run off and start killing people in the middle east. Sure, Saddam went down, but at the cost of how many American and innocent Iraqi/Iranian/Afghani/Saudi lives? Now what are they doing over there? Police action? Some of those people don't want us there anymore. I even saw a clip of some idiot marines with a tank who said they found some looters. They decided to lteach them a lesson by running over the car which they were using to "steal" wood with their tank. They don't have a translator by the way, so these people who have been captured by the marines don't know what is going on. They run over his car, crush it flat, and then it turns out the man was a taxi driver and his livelyhood was that car.

Back to Bush, you think he could have cut his vacation short to help his beloved South try and avoid a hurricane? He didn't, and now look at it. He also holds a nice lengthy criminal record, always nice to have a guy with a DUI and a history of cocaine use running the now most hated country on the planet. We went from gaining the world's sympathy after 9/11 to being loathed only years later for actions we took against the middle east. Those "religous extremists" they keep talking about? Bullshit. Back in the 80's-90's the men on the FBIs most wanted list were of middle eastern descent, and were Christians. This isn't about islam, those terrorists are often times Chrisitans, and there is so much propagana and garbage spewed by the media it becomes hard to figure out who is an "extremist" or a "terrorist". Nobody is wearing uniforms in this battle. The media and government are trying to give people a bad guy to picture and pin down and place blame upon.

I don't like the current President because I think he has done a terrible job in responding to the Nation's needs. Have you seen the huge deficit he's crated? I'll never see social security money, thanks to his trillion dollar debts he's built up. I think the electoral college is an old and broken system - if you win the popular vote you should win the election. This electoral college crap needs to be amended. The people in government positions are often of a specific generation - often one full of intollerance and little understanding of people who are different from one another, often with a moral obligaion formed by religon in all their years leading up to thir posiotions in office. Religon is fine and dandy, it often has the right message of love for one another, but it has been skewed, warped, twisted and perverted into it's present state of intolerant lies and manipulation. Saying gay people should be denied the same rights women and black people fought for not too many years ago because "God says so in the bible/koran/torra/whatever" is a load of bullshit. It's ridiculous to assume some being with the ability to create existance would care about something as insignificant as you enough to tell you that gay people are evil. That is the utmost level of arrogance. What happened to seperation of church and state? You know what they called it the last time the Church was in charge of the government?

Don't you think that he has also done good stuff as well, I admit I do not know his politcal history for the length of his presidency, but you also have to admit that some of those views are your personal opinion. Many people don't believe in gay marriage. I am okay with it, I believe they should have the right, but I know that not everyone feels this way, but I will still defend their right, but I'd still defend others' rights to not believe in it.

I admit, Bush's best may not have been as good as one would hope, but sometimes he can have a lot going on, and I'm sure that there were more reasons for going to war than they let out (excluding the oil theory). Personally, I as well don't like some of his decisions, and a different president may be needed, but I dont think he's bad.

Oh, by the way, weren't kingdoms claiming control of the church during the beginning of the Rennaissance(sp?), the uplift of civilization to what it has become?

Bush has put forward efforts to do some good in the world, but those events have been mostly overshadowed by the big events which seem to go wrong. Partially the media's fault for their portraial of him.

It's sad that people can take something which started out with the best intentions (hopefully...I'll give you the benefit of the doubt), and pervert it into "Gays are evil, blah blah blah send me money." Televangelists piss me off. Pat Roberts (or whatever that 700 Club guy is) should be stoned to death. Evangelists piss me off too - they are religous extremists as well as the guys who stap bombs to their chests and blow up buses.

I'm not saying anyone has an "incorrect opinion" because that's untrue and would be rather facist of me. I'm just saying that some of the older clans of thinking are becoming sorely outdated and should try and keep up and incorporate some of the more liberal laid back trains of thought. I'm not saying you need to change your ways and be a bleeding heart left wing nutbag, going to extreme on either end is ridiculous. It's about finding a balance where people can live together in a relativly peaceful coexistance.

The reason why I dont like Blair is simply beacuse he is Bushes poodle. Everything Bush did, he followed suit. He just cant seem to run on his own, even though the UK isnt exactly a weak country. As for Iraq, he really wasnt justified. He went to war for the same reason Bush claimed to go to war and that proved to be a lie.

Many things have been in Bush's control. Like the hurricane, for instance. He had the power to do a mandatory evacuation, but didn't. And also, rescue didn't come until five days later.

Also, he stated on NATIONAL TV that he didn't know they needed help in the Astrodome. Wtf? Now. Don't go flaming me, William, just look at that, and then respond.
