Grimm's Fairy Tales Presents...
#1
Alrighty then, so yeah. I was skimming around the net, looking for ideas because I love running RPGs (even though they never go anywhere.) I didn't want to do Dragonball Z, I didn't want to do 'pick a character from anywhere'. Those two are for obvious reasons -- Chubbs and AD, respectively. I have never read Naruto, hence why I did not choose that one... So I'm sitting here, thinking, "What could I do?" And I narrow it down to either Star Wars or Marvel. So then I decided on Star Wars, because, well, I know it better, and it allows for more diversity of playing styles, etc. So I have a short little informational survey for everybody. I should think that this would be okay because a while ago someone was asking for assistance and critique on their roleplaying game. So I'm coming up with some ideas, and I'd like some critique. But first the survey! Anything of yours I use will be credited, don't worry.

1) What, to you, would be the biggest asset to a Star Wars RPG?

2) How would you shape the stat system?

3) Should the Light Side/Dark Side system be regulated, or should players be allowed to switch back and forth character wise, instead of gaining 'Dark Side Points'?

4) I was thinking of incorporating a class system similar to Star Wars Galaxies. Would this be an appropriate addition for a play-by-post RPG like this?

This would have to be sooo guild-based. Dark/Light Side being the biggest two, the professions/classes being branches that contribute to each.

We had a cool guild system *cough* but um, some internet pirates pillaged it away from us. I guess.

Something happened.

Why do an RPG based on anything at all?

This is more directed at the little story in the OP, but it was still the first thing that came to mind.

Yeah all the star wars rpgs I've joined have failed.

Now, you should do an RPG based on the brothers Grim!

That movie was terrible.
Greg0rz (3:16:14 PM): if you cut Michael Moore, he would bleed cheese and bacon grease?
UltimoDemon (3:16:26 PM): I think that is very likely, yes.
Greg0rz (3:16:34 PM): *scribbles down*
Greg0rz (3:16:45 PM): do you mind if I quote you?
UltimoDemon (3:16:49 PM): Not at all.

The brother grimm wrote fairy tales, like Cinderella, but they were greusome. Like the one sister cut off her heel (or toes or some shit) so she could fit the shoe the prince brought. They were darker fairy tales.

Star Wars seems like it would translate quite well into a rpg similar to this one. But what do I know of such things.

I was in a Star Wars RPG done by a former(?) member of this here sight. It went under pretty fast but I enjoyed myself. I don't have time for one now but it'd tempt me.

The problem with a Star Wars RPG is Jedi. Everyone that plays will want to be a Jedi. It's the same thing that happened in Star Wars Galaxies. You should have some wicked requirements for becoming Force Sensative and getting trained as a Jedi, much like the requirements for becoming SSJ on Chubbs. Nobody should get to start out as a bamf uber-Jedi.

I used to read all the Grimm's fairy tales when I was little. My grandpa gave us an old book of them from Sweden and it was my favorite book.

That's a great idea. I like the guild system, but I don't really think it would work that well... I mean, there'd have to be factions, but I was hoping to more let the players incorporate themselves into the factions, much like the alliances here on CDBZ, except way more influential and integral in the whole process.

This is going to be based largely off of the material given by the Wizards of the Coast Star Wars Roleplaying Game, but will have many major differences -- the current ones include the system of Factions, which, while going by the same name as a system incorporated in the SWRPG, is vastly different, and the path to becoming a Jedi.

Starting Classes Wrote:Noble - the noble is skilled in the art of persuasion, and uses the charisma skill to the best advantage.
Scoundrel - the scoundrel is skilled in the art of deception, and uses the skill of wisdom to the best advantage.
Soldier - the soldier is skilled in the art of combat, and uses the skill of strength to the best advantage.
Scout - the scout is skilled in the art of exploration, and uses the skill of dexterity to the best advantage.
Tech Specialist - the tech specialist is skilled in the art of mechanics, and uses the skill of intelligence to the best advantage.

Currently, there is no class that focuses on the skill of Constitution. That one is meant to be an average skill used by all classes about equally.

Specializations List Wrote:Acrobatics
Athletics
Computer Use
Deception
Endurance

Healing
