CUSTOM CHARACTERS

For years people have been asking to be able to create their own characters with protests of controversy and special treatment. Now it is possible for everyone to have a custom of their very own. However, we no longer allow new joiners to have a canon character. They are only permitted to have a custom. Since creating a custom is a bit trickier than simply having a canon cutout, there are specific guidelines to custom character creation, ranging all aspects of being.

Naming

This is pretty simple. You cannot name a custom character after a canon character. For example, no custom can run around with the name “Vegeta” or “Goku” or anything like that. Not even a derivative like “Trunks Jr.” or “Vegeta the IV.” Secondly, lay off the names of famous characters from anime, video games, and the like. A character cannot run around with the name “Sephiroth” or something like that. Thirdly, no duplicate names. For instance, if there is already a character named “Kane,” you can’t join as a character named “Kane” even if you use an alternate spelling. Fourthly and lastly, keep it appropriate.

History

Since there’s no canon blueprint for customs, joiners should feel a little bit more sense of freedom and creativity when it comes to making backgrounds. You can essentially be anyone you want, so long as it doesn’t conflict with the following rules.

No blood or marital relations to any canons, customs, or past and current NPCs. In essence, you cannot be an ancestor, descendant, father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew, niece, cousin, husband, or wife (or any of those in combination with half-, step-, grand-, great-, ex-, twin, or “long lost”), to any canon character in the DB/Z/GT universe, any customs including the two preceding the turnover, or any already-created NPC in the Chubbs universe. This includes clones and replicates (mechanical or otherwise), or alternate time/universe versions.

No history involving another character or past and current NPC. Nobody knows anybody when they start out. So you can’t be good friends with Vegeta or swear vengeance on Goku for something he did to you.

No Akira Toriyama history, or pretty much no DB/Z/GT history. We have our own history. Planet Vegeta was never blown up or ruled over by Frieza. There was no Ginyu Force. There was no alternate time line where the Earth was terrorized by androids.

No history conflicting with Chubbs history. Basically, you can’t make yourself king of Planet Vegeta or saying your character did something that somebody else did or things like that.

No duplicate characters or references from outside the DB/Z/GT universe. You cannot have a character made similar or identical to somebody from a video game, anime, comic book, or the like. So no Ex-SOLDIER Clouds or Zanpakuto-toting Ichigos.

Appearance

When you create your character, you need to give a general description of your character, listing all the basic physical traits: hair color, body type, and etcetera. This is what you must adhere to when picking the pictures you use for avatars and signatures. If you say you have blonde hair and blue eyes, your images better be someone with blonde hair and blue eyes.

If you want to change the person in your graphics, there must be a strong similarity to the preceding image. For instance, you can’t start off looking like Cloud and then jump to looking like Sephiroth. Something more along the lines of jumping from Cloud to Tidus would be more acceptable. We know that simple things like a haircut or a dye job or what have you can explain changes, but you must stay in the general area of the character description you started out with. Keep any deviations simple and reasonable.

No canon look-a-likes. For example, you can’t have a picture of Vegeta, change his hair color to red, and say it’s a different person. You cannot use an image of a canon character for a custom, no matter what rationale you may use. The reason for this is that those characters are still active (whether as NPCs or not) in the Chubbs universe, and as such their likeness belongs to them. The only exception to this are the nameks, who can use any picture of any namek, so long as they aren’t using the exact same pictures or poses.

No duplicate images. If somebody is already using a picture of Terry Bogard from SNK, you can’t use any Terry Bogard pictures. In instance of our original custom character, no one else is allowed to use pictures of Sasuke or Itachi from Naruto. This includes modified pictures, ala the change of hair color example used above. It’s basically first-come, first-serve. This is to prevent confusion of characters. As previously, nameks may use pictures of any nameks, so long as they aren’t using the exact same pictures or poses.

Nameks must be asexual male. We once had a Nail who used the dragon balls to wish for a penis, but that’s about it.

Full-blooded saiyans must have black hair and black eyes. Their Super Saiyan transformation must have blond hair and turquoise eyes. Anything else, and you have to classify them as “half-saiyan.”

WELCOME!

We’d like to start off by saying welcome to the Chubbs role-playing community! We are a dedicated site that has had its doors open to role-players for over seven sweet-lovin’ years, and we are proud to say through hard work and many hands we’ve evolved beyond your standard DBZ RPG and well beyond our roots of Dragonball Zento. Chubbs is a freeform play-by-post custom character RPG with an emphasis on quality writing. Feel free to explore our extended universe by taking a look at our Information Vault, as well as the other Vaults, which contains all you need to know about our world. We also offer much more than simple role-playing: we have games, contests, and other social outlets for just hanging out or expressing your mad graphic skills. Overall, we have fun! So please, browse around and we hope that we can welcome you into our fellowship. More importantly, enjoy your stay! Oh, and leave your mercy at the door…

!!READ FIRST!!

By registering an account with our boards, joining, and/or becoming a member, you are agreeing to abide by any and all rules and regulations we the staff have set down on both the website and the forums, based on our interpretation only. They are not subject to negotiation. You also agree to accept any disciplinary action that may result in violation of these rules. All members and registered accounts are expected to read these rules and be aware of their existence prior to any infraction. Ignorance will never be an acceptable excuse: it isn’t bliss, it’s stupid.

We reserve the right to change any and all rules at any point and time under our discretion. We the staff will make every attempt to make these rules as thorough as possible, we will make every effort to provide you with the information that you as a member or registered account need to know. Some information is classified as staff-only and will remain as such.

The staff here at Chubbs will never abuse our power, but we are required to use it. We assure you that there is reasoning behind all of our actions, even if it goes misunderstood.

If you have questions, please ask them in the Questions and Suggestions forum.

Read the rules. Follow the rules. It’s that simple.

JOINING

First of all, thank you for your interest in Chubbs DBZ RPG. We’re always on the lookout for new faces. Before you begin the joining process, we ask some easy-to-follow prerequisites.

READ THE SITE! This cannot be stressed enough. You’re wasting our time and yours if you don’t. If you demonstrate that you have not read the site, your application will be denied until you do. If you continue to demonstrate that you have not read the site when directed to do so, this isn’t the place for you and you should look elsewhere.

NO PROXYS. Because of problems we’ve had in the past, and problems we still have today, we no longer allow people to join under a proxy address. If you’re found using one, we will have no choice but to instantly and permanently ban your account. If you have nothing to hide, you should have no fear of using your real IP. The only exception to using a proxy address is if you are already a well-established member and have cleared permission with staff beforehand.

ONE ACCOUNT PER COMPUTER. That means no two members should have the same IP address, because you’re not allowed to have multiple accounts. If you’re caught, any and all accounts with matching IP addresses will be banned. If you are, in fact, two different people sharing one or multiple computers, we require proof due to previous and potential abuse. Before you attempt to join, please send a staff member a picture of both people, each one holding signs pointing to who is whom. If you don’t have a digital camera or a scanner and you can’t borrow one, sorry, but you’re out of luck. It also would be a good idea to tell staff before you join if you’re using a public computer, such as one at a school or library.

CUSTOM CHARACTERS ONLY. We no longer allow newcomers to join as canon characters, or people of the DBZ Universe. Only those who had canons prior to this change are permitted to have them. You must join as an original custom.

BE COURTEOUS AND RESPECTFUL. Staff reserves the right to deny your application at any point and time on the grounds of you being an ass. We shouldn’t even have to emphasize this, but we REQUIRE all new applicants to treat us with the respect that we treat you. YOU are asking US to be able to role-play here, and if you can’t act like a decent human being, you’ll have to look elsewhere. We do not appreciate nor do we need the attitude. We don’t like IP banning people, but we will do it if pushed.

Once you’ve read the site, register an account with your character’s name. Don’t do something stupid like “ssj3gotenks” or “sk8rboi54987.” Fill out a join form by copy/pasting the one found in this section, and make a post in the Joining Board forum titled “Joining as [blank]” and fill the blank in with your character name. A staff member will respond and once you’re approved, will get you started on setting up your membership. Staff will delete registered accounts on a regular basis to keep the registry clean, so your name may be deleted on accident and you may have to re-register. If you have any questions, read the site and the various stickies, and if they are not answered there, feel free to ask in your join post. If your post has not been responded to in 72 hours (exactly 3 days), you are allowed one bump per 72 hours.

We have a certain level of writing quality we require in our members. If your level isn’t quite up to snuff, but we think you’ve got potential, we’ll send you to Role-playing School. Do not post in the Role-playing School forum unless a staff member has specifically sent you there, and do not post outside of it until you’ve “graduated.” Please read the stickies in the forum for further rules. Remember, this is for potential joiners only. Those who are already a member should use the RPG Discussion forum for improvement.
