WMAT - Aqua - 01-15-2008 I suggest a Chubbs World Martial Arts Tournament with a twist. I was thinking we could have two powerful NPCs announce their interest in running a tournament where they can decide which of them has a better eye for talent and ability. They would each recruit a team of people. Within the tournament, each fighter only fights people from the other team (like the contender). Whichever team wins gets a nice purse (awarded in the order that the teammates finished in the tournament). There can even also be just general top 5 place winnings as well. WMAT - Aqua - 01-16-2008 Ok, guess this doesn't interest anyone... WMAT - Kaden - 01-16-2008 You wanna run it? WMAT - Aqua - 01-16-2008 Sure. Limitations? WMAT - Tempo - 01-16-2008 I was actually going to post in here sooner. I think this is a great idea. Though I have been craving for more of a storyline based saga, i can handle this. Its a tournament, but with a twist that should keep people interested. If it happens im down and if you need any help with running it or starting it, i can do that too. WMAT - Kaden - 01-17-2008 Aqua Wrote:Sure. Limitations? None, from a staff point-of-view. Any IC limitations you want to put on people for story reasons is up to you. WMAT - Aqua - 01-17-2008 Award limits? WMAT - Kaden - 01-17-2008 Throw out some numbers. WMAT - Aqua - 01-17-2008 The winning team would award 1,ooo zeni to its last place finisher, 2k to its second to last, etc. In addition to that, the top 5 finishers overall get the following: 5th place: 2,ooo 4th place: 4,ooo 3rd place: 6,ooo 2nd place: 8,ooo 1st place: 1o,ooo So, the more people who compete, the more money higher placing teammates on the winning team will get. Regardless of how many people enter, the top 5 places are rewarded despite whichever team they're on. WMAT - Kaden - 01-17-2008 Looks good to me. WMAT - Aqua - 01-17-2008 Awesome. I'll work up an announcement and then link that to an ooc sign-up page in the RPG forum. I'm also thinking of capping the fights at 5 posts, 1,ooo words per post. The winner of each fight would be determined by me I guess? Those people not in one of the on-going fights can RP themselves observing one of the fights and, on occasion, interfering to help someone on their team. In my announcement, I'll be posting IC and OOC rules so hopefully, everyone's interest will be peaked. WMAT - Waffuru - 01-17-2008 Is your zero key broken? WMAT - Aqua - 01-17-2008 No, I just like using 'o' for 0 because I think it looks neater. I'm eccentric like that :-D WMAT - Szar - 01-21-2008 I agree that this could potentially be a cool idea, but I see one problematic element. The 1,000 word per post limitation you set might lead people to focus more on their word count than on the content of their post. Just an observation. WMAT - Aqua - 01-21-2008 I think that good writers ought to be able to put up 5 quality 1,ooo word posts per fight. I'm not really concerned with people's sensibilities when it comes to moderating their word count, to be honest. As a side note, I'll work on posting all this stuff later today. WMAT - Szar - 01-21-2008 But considering the state of activity, how likely is it that people will post 5 posts each, let alone 5 posts with 1,000 words? WMAT - Aqua - 01-22-2008 It isn't 1,ooo minimum, it's 1,ooo maximum. I've done this to squelch the very concern your raising. And, again, even if it were 1,ooo minimum, that's only about one page, single spaced in word. That would be pretty reasonable too. WMAT - Szar - 01-22-2008 I'm adressing the problems that might arise WITH it being a 1,000 word maximum, since I knew that was what you meant. But, it's your thing, do what you want. WMAT - Aqua - 01-22-2008 I don't know how likely it is for people to say "I hate this! I want to write more than 5,000 words per round!" If they're that driven, they can always post themselves observing other fights and the like. They could also just spend more effort and energy on each post. For my own part, I know I don't think it's fair when I put out twice as much content as someone else and, even though our quality is equal, we get similar rewards. With a max word count, this problem is far less likely. Beyond that, I wanted this tournament to be a true test of RPing ability. The only way to do that is to moderate how much each person is posting. Otherwise, there's no real way to determine who RPed better if two people are posting two different qualities at two different lengths. This is a competition, and all competitions have parameters. WMAT - Alexander Trafford - 01-22-2008 5 posts per fight? oh my. |
