One debate you don't need to have... - Kami - 02-16-2009

They members of somthingawful.com decided that they would hold a "flawless" debate. The theory was that they could strictly use logical arguments and support those claims best they could and not degrade into the usual bullcrap and insult hurling that internet debates usually devolve into at some point. I think they did an alright job, the only problem was the guy who suggested the debate left the subject open to the masses and leave it to one of those geniuses to come up with the question "Who do you think would win in a fight, Goku or Superman?"

I got to Page 3 and my eyes started bleeding. But Kudo's to them for actually doing it.

oh internet, what won't you do next?

They fail, Goku wasn't stupid. He's actually a very intelligent person, he is often capable of seeing or understanding things other characters in the series did not. In fact he opted not to fight Fat Buu even though he may have been able to kill him at that point in the story, because he felt it was necessary for the next generation to be able to protect themselves in case he wasn't there.

He was the only person to understand the true capacity of Gohan's abilities, and how to properly train SSJ to gain the maximum benefit from it. Even Trunks was unable to discern the weakness of USSJ, but Goku did within moments of achieving that level.

As a Superman supporter, I have to say that those guys gave Goku a bad rap. One of the guys actually said "I know little to nothing about Goku" yet continued to be a part of the debate. gtfo

Yeah what a fucking bunch of shitgobblers.

Don't like SomethingAwful? They're pretty funny, though Goku got gipped in that argument.

I was being ironic.

I have no feeling one way or another on the goons.

One debate you don't need to have... - Sage - 02-17-2009

I support the outcome, but not necessarily the methodology.

That said, I'm not about to debate this myself. It's been done. Even here.

One debate you don't need to have... - Kaden - 02-17-2009

Seriously. Debating that is a waste of time.

We all know Goku would win. Easily.

One debate you don't need to have... - Sage - 02-17-2009

I see what you did there.

One debate you don't need to have... - Waffuru - 02-17-2009

I agree that they didn't know shit about Goku but we're taking about Silver-age Superman. He's fucking invincible. He yawns when he gets hit with a nuclear explosion and then flies faster than the speed of light through the core of a star. What the fuck is Goku going to do about that? The writers of the Superman during that time had tiny penises and gave Superman more powers than a Jedi to compensate.

They did a shit job establishing the circumstances of the fight. Like, is there Kryptonite in the universe and do Goku's ki attacks even harm Superman?

Teleport him into the afterlife.

Shappon. Fight over.

One debate you don't need to have... - Waffuru - 02-17-2009

How does that kill him?

That'd almost win, but I'm sure that Supes would somehow bullshit his way into just flying out of there and then turning back time all bullshitty and starting the fight over repeatedly until he wins.

Waffuru Wrote:How does that kill him?

The question isn't who could kill who, it's who would win the fight.

Trapping someone in an alternate dimesion counts as winning in my book.

One debate you don't need to have... - Waffuru - 02-17-2009

Maybe so, but I still think you might be underestimating how much bullshit silver-age Superman is.

Quote:Powers

Known Powers: Truly infinite power levels of Flight, Invulnerability, Strength and Speed (faster than light) which were all based on his body's ability to absorb, process and store yellow sun radiation in some way to allow him to do these feats. He would lose all of his powers under the presence of a red sun such as his native Krypton star in short period of time.
Superman can fly across the universe to distant galaxies and distant planets through space warps and is known to fly across the solar system in no time mostly to get his mind off things.

The Earth-One Superman's physical abilities included Heat Vision, Telescopic Vision, Microscopic Vision, X-Ray Vision, Super Breath, Super Ventriloquism, Super Hypnotism. All of these powers were infinitely powered as well, as noted in a story published in Feb 1961, one of his super sneezes literally destroys an entire distant solar system.

As long as the Earth-One Superman is charged under a yellow sun, he doesn't need to eat, breathe, or sleep. He is also impervious to extreme heat and cold. Able to survive indefinately in a vacuum in a yellow sun system.

The only true limitations to his power levels were kryptonite and powerful magics. Psionics could also effect him but unless done quickly Superman's superconcentration would overcome most enemies who used mind control techniques on him, same as did magic forms that did not immediately immobolize him whereby he would move out of their range of effectiveness.

It's possible.

Does anyone have a conversion chart? Is truly infinite power better than maximum power?

One debate you don't need to have... - Waffuru - 02-17-2009

Not sure how maximum power stacks up against truly infinite power.

But what the hell is with Super Ventriloquism?

One debate you don't need to have... - Kaden - 02-17-2009

I don't think that even counts as a super power.

My absolutely favorite is his counter to psychic attacks. He has fucking Super Concentration.
