actually the rumor is that he was asked to be a rescripted joker and later changed to him possibly doing Riddler in B3, using the theme that he helps the cops to set traps to try to play the cops against Batman and get them against each other.

Depp is a phenomenal actor who can bring to life quirky characters in a fresh way.
I have no problem with him, personally. In fact, many of my favorite movies tend to have him in it.
